Kovitz Shifrin Nesbit is growing! A well-established and leading law firm specializing in the representation of multi-family rental properties is seeking an experienced, full-time Paralegal in our Landlord-Tenant Department. The Paralegal is responsible for interactions with landlords, rental property managers, tenants, attorneys for tenants, and other third parties.
Hours for this non-exempt position are 9:00am to 5:00pm, Monday- Friday. The starting hourly rate for this role is $34.62, contingent upon level of experience. The position will require a period of training fully in-office. There will be the opportunity to transition to a hybrid schedule, partial remote, after training.
Requirements
Duties/Responsibilities:
· Provide a professional level of customer service to clients and management companies.
· Respond and resolve requests/issues reported by clients or third parties in a timely manner through phone contact, email, and/or letter.
· Responsible for preparing legal documents and related documentation.
· Responsible for organizing court files for attorneys to present in court.
· Meet with managers to discuss collections and other issues related to our representation of them.
· Docket appropriate dates and details with timely follow up.
· Maintain clear and concise notes detailing daily activity on assigned accounts in the appropriate databases.
· Bill clients, as needed, for services and expenses incurred.
· Process payments received from tenants.
· E-file court documents with the appropriate counties.
· Have discussions with tenants regarding their debt and assist in a successful resolution.
· Analyze financial records to determine what has been paid and what is due on tenant’s accounts.
· Speak with attorneys, landlords, property managers, and tenants.
· Other duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Qualifications:
- 4-year college degree, 2-3 years of practical legal experience.
- Paralegal certificate preferred but not required.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with challenging tasks and daily deadlines.
- Ability to review and understand various legal documents.
- Team player with ability to work independently, prioritize, and multi-task.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Must be able to type at least 50 wpm with 90% accuracy.
- Experience with Microsoft Office programs, specifically Microsoft Outlook.
