Job Summary:
Kovitz Shifrin Nesbit is growing! A well-established and leading law firm specializing in homeowner, condominium, and community association law is seeking a Litigation Paralegal for our Boca Raton, FL office. The successful candidate will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including both billable hour and administrative tasks, but will be primarily responsible for communicating status updates to clients. Business hours for this non-exempt position are 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. The starting hourly rate for this role is $24.04, contingent upon level of experience. This role is initially an in-office position, with the potential to transition to a hybrid type schedule. The work schedule will be confirmed with the department manager at the time of hire.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Provide monthly status updates to clients regarding active litigation files.
- Case Management
- Open/close litigation files.
- Update Litigation Management Software, including docketing, entering notes, orders, and status reports.
- Document Preparation
- Prepare initial documents, including Summons, Motions, and initial letter to client.
- Prepare routine motions, such as motions for extension, vacate, for special process server/alt service.
- Prepare Notice of Deposition forms and similar documents.
- Service of Process; preparation of summonses/alias summonses.
- File Affidavits of Service with the Courts.
- Motions for Special Process Server/Appointment of SPS.
- Arrange for Service and monitoring service.
- Communicate with clients regarding status.
- Preparation of Petitions/Affidavits of Attorney Fees and Costs.
- Handle routine communications with client, attorneys, and vendors.
- E-File new lawsuits, motions, and other pleadings.
- Schedule court reporters.
- Preparation of administrative requests/Subpoenas for Litigators.
- Assist in all aspects of discovery and trial preparation in various jurisdictions.
- Organize and maintain case files.
- Handle legal filings, including online filings.
- Draft routine pleadings.
- Assist in preparation of large document productions.
- Gather, prepare, and summarize relevant case materials for attorney review.
Qualifications:
- 1-3 years as a litigation paralegal and/or 3 years practical experience, required.
- Paralegal certification preferred, but not required.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with challenging tasks and daily deadlines.
- Experience in community association law preferred, but not required.
- Familiarity with online calendaring and docketing systems.
- Strong computer skills are required, specifically in all Microsoft Office Suite programs, including Word and Excel.
- Familiarity with LexisNexis and Summation programs a plus.
Technical Skills: Experience with any system listed below is preferred, but not required.
