KP Aviation, an international supplier and procurer of aftermarket aviation components and assets, is searching for the next key member of our team! We’re excited to be hiring a Data Scientist to our budding and growing Data Analytics team.

We’re excited to expand our team to support the growth of KPA's Data Analytics function and overall business objectives! As part of our developing analytics team, the Data Scientist will be essential in building the foundational and scalable data infrastructure for the department. You will analyze and interpret complex data to deliver actionable insights that drive decision-making and business success. Collaborating with cross-functional teams, you’ll ensure the smooth flow of data and help lay the groundwork for future advanced analytics projects. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to the evolution of our analytics capabilities from the ground up.

We’re an on-site company with offices in Mesa, AZ (HQ) and a satellite office in Reno, NV. We prefer someone in person but may consider remote / hybrid options.

Your role will take you to new heights, as you will be tasked with these essential job responsibilities :

  • Identify and analyze problems across large vehicle populations, using data mining, predictive modeling, simulation, and visualization techniques to drive insights and optimize internal performance.
  • Perform hands-on analysis and analytical methods, design search patterns, identify patterns and trends, develop mining automation, and execute data reduction techniques to support advanced analytics initiatives.
  • Contribute to the building of data marts and support the integration of various data sources to enable effective analytics workflows.
  • Maintain the latest knowledge in software and hardware products or services, trends, and identify best solutions to meet business requirements.
  • Drive the collection of new data sources and refine existing datasets to ensure accuracy, completeness, and relevance for analytical initiatives.
  • Experience with software integration or testing, including analyzing and implementing test plans and scripts.
  • Experience using Structured Query Language (SQL), Non Structured Query Language (NoSQL), Application Program Interface (API) Building, Extract, Transform, and Load (ETL) pipelines, Web Application Servers, or Search Index.
  • Proficient in using scripting languages such as Python and R, with experience utilizing libraries (Jupyter Notebook, Pandas, Numpy, etc.) commonly employed in data science applications and advanced analytics.
  • Experience with data science, data mining, and statistics to support and enhance analytics objectives.
  • Serve as the subject matter expert for Data Analytics, specializing in both predictive and prescriptive analysis, while ensuring alignment with industry best practices and evolving methodologies.
  • Establish strong working relationships with peer teams to review requirements and problem areas, identifying and applying the appropriate statistical techniques to analyze available data effectively.
  • Experience in applying advanced mathematical and statistical concepts, as well as utilizing statistical and operations research methods and tools.
  • Assist in the conception, development, optimization, and assessment of machine-learning models.
  • Contribute to a wide variety of technical projects using natural language processing, statistical analysis, machine-learning, and other forms of analytical modeling.
  • Effectively manage stakeholder expectations, ensuring alignment with project objectives.
  • Coordinate project timelines, milestones, and deliverables to ensure efficient progress and successful outcomes.
  • Translate data science model impacts, insights, and methodologies into accessible language for non-technical team members.
  • Foster a culture of understanding and appreciation for data-driven decision-making across the organization.
  • Perform other duties and projects as assigned, demonstrating flexibility and a proactive approach to meet the needs of the team and organization.
  • Collaborate with other teams to define data requirements and ensure data is organized, accessible, and aligned with business needs.
  • Mentor others to enhance analytical skill sets throughout the organization.
  • Develop, evaluate, and implement robust analytical methods / models / workflows / apps as needed for in-house discovery and development.
  • Develop and establish best practices for instrumentation and experimentation, and effectively communicate these practices to peer teams to ensure consistency and quality across projects.
  • Assist in the development and management of databases, ensuring they are structured for scalability and optimized for analytics.
  • Help establish data governance practices to ensure data accuracy, consistency, and reliability across the organization.

To succeed in this role, you will need to have :

  • Experience working with various business partners and teams, both onsite and remote, and across the globe.
  • Deep knowledge of computer systems, security, network and systems administration, databases and data storage systems, and phone systems.
  • Knowledge of Salesforce preferred but not required.
  • Extensive knowledge of network hardware and LAN / WAN configurations.
  • Knowledge of SQL and database management.
  • Knowledge of Python scripting for data manipulation, analysis, and automation.
  • Strong critical thinking and decision-making skills, and ability to prioritize against multiple (sometimes competing) priorities.
  • Preferred knowledge and experience in the Aviation field or Transportation sector.
  • Occasional ability to work outside normal business hours – we support an international operation!
  • Ability to remain confidential, impartial, and professional always – with great access comes great responsibility.
  • Strong communicator to manage various levels of the organization – we support various users with differing levels of technology savviness.
  • Ability to adapt with circumstances that change, and unafraid to lean in and think critically to solve problems.
