Licensed Vocational Nurse - Hemet Healthcare Surgicenter

SUMMARY

The Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) is responsible for completing practical procedures, caring for and monitoring patients’ health.

REQUIREMENTS

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

1. Monitors patients’ vital signs and records any data regarding change or improvement.
2. Administers medication and applies topical treatments when necessary.
3. Manages feeding tube machines while in the Surgicenter, gives injections, and treats open wounds.
4. Completes patient related paperwork and some secretarial duties related to patient care.
5. Gives injections as needed.
6. Collects blood and urine samples.
7. Assists patients with dressing and personal hygiene.
8. Works with families of patients and teaches them how to provide follow-up or preventative care for the patient.
9. Additional duties as assigned.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

• Graduate from an accredited Practical/Vocational program preferred.
• Possession of a valid California Vocational Nurses License
• BLS required. American Heart Association BLS preferred.
• Minimum of 1 year of experience is required.

SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIREMENTS:

• Ability to skillfully perform vocational nursing duties and responsibilities within the scope of practice of the Nursing Practice for Act for vocational nurses.
• Ability to learn and follow procedures.
• Ability to maintain a good working relationship with physicians, mid-levels practitioners, co-workers and patients.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

1. Body Positions: Sitting and standing for prolonged periods.
2. Body Movements: Arm and hand dexterity.
3. Body Senses: Must have command of close and distant sight, color perception and hearing.
4. Strength: Ability to lift and move up to 50-pounds.

Working Environment:

1. Work in an office and outpatient medical environment where the climate is controlled.
2. OSHA exposure category: I

Category I – Position includes tasks that involve exposure to Blood borne Pathogens.

Category II – Position includes tasks that do not have exposure to Bloodborne Pathogens, however employment may require unplanned Category I tasks.

Category III – Positions includes tasks that do not involve exposure to Bloodborne Pathogens. This position would not be required to perform Category I tasks.
