POSITION SUMMARY
DEFINITION
Under direction, to manage, supervise, plan, organize, direct the inpatient/outpatient admissions, bed assignments and cashiering functions; and serve as corporate liaison between patient accounting and hospital.
CLASS CHARACTERISTICS
This is a single position class in which the incumbent operates within a framework of high visibility and accountability for facility’s admitting operations.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way would be:
Education
Possession of Associate Degree in health science or related field from an accredited college or university. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Experience
Three (3) to five (5) years increasingly responsible hospital admitting experience in which two (2) years will be in managerial/supervisor level or lead person at hospital/care environment.
KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES
Knowledge of:
Hospital established policies quality assurance program, safety, environmental and infection control policies and procedures.
Organizational and management practices as applied to the analysis and evaluation of programs, policies and operational needs.
Pertinent federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regulations.
Principles of supervision, training, and performance evaluation.
Business English, spelling, grammar and punctuation.
Principle and practices of hospital budget preparation and administration; principles and methods of record keeping and report writing.
Modern office methods, procedures and computer software.
Ability to:
Organize and provide materials in compliance with laws, regulations, and policies.
Identify and respond to the patient issues and concerns.
Prepare and administer a department budget.
Select, supervise, train, and evaluate assigned staff, establish and maintain cooperative-working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
Understand, interpret, and apply laws, rules, regulations, standards, and procedures.
Keep abreast of developments in the field of admitting administration.
Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
Supervise the accurate and timely completion of patient registration, insurance verification, and financial counseling.
Ensure all necessary demographic and insurance information is gathered during patient intake.
Generate and analyze reports related to patient access and revenue cycle performance.
Conduct audits to ensure accuracy and compliance of all patient accounts to maintain revenue cycle integrity.
Identify and implement process improvements in patient access functions, streamline workflows, and assist with improving patient care experience.
Prepare regular updates and provide insight to leadership regarding key metrics, trends, and issues.
Track and report on key performance indicators (KPIs), such as registration accuracy, insurance verification rates, preauthorization status, and POS copay collections.
Address and resolve escalated patient concerns or complaints related to patient access or billing
