Responsibilities
The Occupational Therapist will be responsible to provide occupation therapy services to our patients with Intellectual Disabilities
Clinical
1. Facilitate development and rehabilitation of patients with IDD by planning and administering medically prescribed occupational therapy.
2. Meet the patient's goals and needs and provide quality care by assessing and interpreting evaluations and test results.
3. Develop occupational therapy treatment plans in consultation with physicians or by prescription.
4. Assist patient in developing and maximizing physical and mental functioning.
5. Implement programs involving manual arts and crafts, practice in functional, prevocational, vocational, and homemaking skills, activities of daily living, and sensorimotor, educational, recreational, and social activities.
6. Direct treatments given by aides, technicians, and assistants.
7. Promote maximum independence by selecting and constructing therapies according to individual's physical capacity, intelligence level, and interest.
8. Prepare patient for potential employment by consulting with employers, determining potential difficulties, retraining employees, and helping employers understand necessary physical and job result accommodations.
9. Evaluate results of occupational therapy by observing, noting, and evaluating patient's progress.
10. Recommend and implement adjustments and modifications to therapeutic interventions.
11. Interview patients, care givers, guardians as needed to make recommendations.
12. Assure continuation of therapeutic plan by designing and instructing patients, families, and caregivers in home exercise programs, recommending and / or providing assistive equipment, and recommending outpatient or home health follow-up programs.
13. Document patient care services by charting in electronic health records (EHR).
14. Adhere to the highest standards of professional ethics at all times.
15. Model an attitude of mentoring and teamwork.
16. Work with Leadership Team in development of, implementation of and adherence to best-practice standards and clinical protocols.
Education / Training / Licensure
Master of Science in Occupational Therapy
Professional licensure
BLS certification
Preferred Experience
Minimum 1 year experience working with patients with IDD.
