The intern will support ongoing projects, as well as participate in the development and implementation of new processes and technologies.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Interfacing with engineers on new designs and research activities.
- Participate in process improvement initiatives to increase efficiency and quality.
- Collaborate with production, maintenance, and safety teams to resolve technical issues and improve plant operations.
- Conduct research and analysis to evaluate new technologies and process improvements.
- Prepare reports and presentations on projects and process improvements.
- Assist engineering teams with project related needs.
- Understand, support, and comply with all facility safety policies and procedures.
- Other duties in support of KSRE operations and processes as well as taking advantage of opportunities to enhance learning in field of engineering and professional development.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: No supervisory responsibilities.
Experience and Skills
Minimum Qualifications:
- Strong aptitude in logic and math in addition to having an ability to troubleshoot and problem solve
- U.S. Citizen
Preferred Qualifications:
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Self-motivated to continually expand knowledge and skills related to this role
- Strong preference for 3.0 GPA or above
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Must be 16 years of age of older
- Currently enrolled in high school
- Successfully completed two years of high school
- Recommended by technical/vocational school instructor
- Mechanical aptitude
- Strong math skills.
WORK ENVIROMENT / PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- This assignment will require:
- Working in both an office and a laboratory setting
- Ability to wear PPE when entering the laboratory
- Use of a computer for extended periods of time may be necessary
In performing the work for this position, the Intern must be able to:
- Sit for extended periods of time without being able to leave the work area.
- Stand for extended periods of time without being able to leave the work area.
- Climb ladders and stairs in performing the work.
- Walk for reasonable distances in performing the work.
- Lift / carry objects weighing up to 50 lbs. in performing the work.
- Pull or push objects weighing up to 50 lbs. in performing the work.
- Grasp objects utilizing the fingers (fine motor manipulation).
- Reach for objects above the head or below the waist.
- Stoop or crouch by bending at the waist or by bending the legs.
- Withstand exposure to constant or intermittent high noise levels.
