Our team is currently looking for an experienced Senior Controls Engineer to be based in Portsmouth, NH, who will develop a diverse portfolio of Automation and Integration projects with a focus on the design, implementation, and maintenance of complex industrial control systems. About The Role
Our team is currently looking for an experienced Senior Controls Engineer to be based in Portsmouth, NH, who will develop a diverse portfolio of Automation and Integration projects with a focus on the design, implementation, and maintenance of complex industrial control systems. The successful candidate will utilize their experience and expertise in the field of Controls Engineering to provide solutions to a diverse clientele that includes multinational industry leaders.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop advanced control systems and automation solutions to optimize industrial processes across various industry sectors.
- Create control system panels that meet client requirements while ensuring accessibility, maintainability, and adherence to industry standards and code requirements.
- Integrate control systems with new and existing machinery and equipment to enhance efficiency and performance.
- Write and debug software for programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and other automation devices such as HMIs and SCADA systems.
- Conduct comprehensive tests, including loop checks, interlock testing, and instrument checkout, to ensure control systems meet operational standards and requirements.
- Specification of the instrumentation necessary to monitor and control various processes to ensure process accuracy.
- Provide training and support to operators and technicians on the use and maintenance of control systems.
- Collaborate with the Electrical Engineering group to design power distribution components such as Motor Control Centers (MCC) and Switch Gear as required.
- Work directly with clients to develop project options and alternatives, offer engineering guidance for project planning and development, conduct field investigations, and address critical issues.
- Participate in the material procurement process by preparing detailed specifications and reviewing vendors’ quotations for technical accuracy.
- Utilize prepared engineering documents as part of comprehensive bid packages to enable accurate contractor bids, evaluate returned bids for completeness and pricing, and select and approve contractors.
- Education: A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Controls Engineering is preferred. Alternatively, related technical Bachelor of Science degrees or an Associate’s degree in Engineering Technology, coupled with equivalent experience, may be considered.
- 8-10 years of experience in controls system integration, design, and field work.
- Passion for mentorship of junior staff and involvement in developing a team of controls engineering personnel to meet business requirements.
- Proficiency in mainstream control system products and programming platforms such as Rockwell, GE, Siemens, and Honeywell.
- Experience in specifying industrial process instrumentation from manufacturers like Rosemount and Honeywell.
- Knowledge of working with and around hazard detection and UL fire panel systems.
- Skilled in programming Automation PLC and HMI systems.
- Aptitude for creating comprehensive design packages, including P&IDs, panel designs, and construction documents using AutoCAD.
- Ability to work in the field to support integration and startup efforts up to 15% of the time.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills with Krech Ojard staff, external organizations, and client representatives.
