What are the responsibilities and job description for the Small farm manager position at Kriger Farms?
Howdy,
I own 10 acres in Oklahoma City and I am looking for someone to come in and build up a small farm with me. I want to start by talking about the vision and opportunity.
I own my 10 acres mostly outright. I'd like to eventually buy my neighbors (10 and 10 acres on both sides). Both have interest in selling. It is entirely fenced in with a cattle guard in the front. My neighbor has a commercial restaurant in the front. It is a run down building, but it is zoned for restaurant space. This property is in-between Edmond and Downtown just off I-35.
Farm Goals... I want to:
Build out parking for roughly 50 vehicles.
Build a chicken coop for roughly half an acre.
Farm 2-3 acres directly
Add in bees to the back of the property
Landscape and develop a 1-2 acre area for outdoor yoga.
Eventually I want to build a small farm-to-table restaurant that also services breakfast for the daily yoga classes. I'm even considering building an event space. I expect to grow over 100 different types of crops to maintain variety and novelty. I have the knowledge and experience to create specialty fermented products as well as vinegars.
The location and draw to the property is key. I would expect to do marketing at local farmers markets and to develop a brand together. Eventually, we want people coming directly to our location and selling fresh, organic produce to the hundreds of people coming for yoga. I spoke with five yoga instructors and all of them had interest in doing a class here if we can set it up.
The most unique part of this job offer is the financial backing. I already own a skid steer. I've got a greenhouse built out. I own a successful company that is growing. I have over 100 staff and this occupies most of my time. I expect to have over 200 staff by end of year. I have the capital to develop this property into what it needs to be.
My preferred candidate is someone who has gone through a small-farm program or has extensive experience with farming. I am not looking to do a traditional hire. I want someone that will fundamentally partner with me on this endeavor. I can pay a salary as we go, but the majority of income after the first season needs to be from the revenue we are producing together.
It's a wild job offer. If your dream is to become a homesteading farmer, you won't find a better offer anywhere. I expect to grow this farm to a 10-15 person operation over the next decade and buy out to 30-40acres. All the while, we won't lose that small feel.
