POSITION SUMMARY
Reporting to the Plant Controller, the Financial Accountant is responsible for organizing and coordinating the general accounting activities for the plant. Ensuring the day-to-day maintenance of a complete & accurate general ledger, prepare basic financial reports, and analyse & report any variances. Assists with month-end closing & reporting, budgets/forecasts, monthly outlooks, capital projects, and analysing operational performance.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Adhere to Kruger's financial guidelines and protocols
- Manage invoicing, payments, and collections, ensuring timely processing and accuracy
- Maintaining and reconciling the general ledger accounts, including journal entries
- Preparing and analyzing financial statements, ensuring the accuracy of reporting
- Participate in all month end closing activities
- Implementing and monitoring internal controls to protect company assets
- Supporting internal and external audits by providing necessary documentation and explanations
- Any other duties as directed by the Controller
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Solid understanding and working knowledge of standard financial / accounting procedures, GAAP concepts and principles, and internal control
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to handle numerous details, deadlines, and requests
- Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a timely manner
- Strong capability to analyze data and identify trends or discrepancies
- Ability to clearly convey financial information to non-financial stakeholders
- The ability to network and build relationships with individuals of various experience and corporate positions
- Strong listening, evaluating, and organizational skills
- Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel
- Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and ethical standards in financial reporting
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field
EXPERIENCE
- 2 to 3 years’ experience in a business office/accounting department with exposure to general ledger, budgeting, accounts payable/receivable functions
- 1 to 2 years’ experience in the manufacturing sector, containerboard, and corrugated packaging industry is preferred
- Understanding of the complete accounting cycle
- Experience with financial systems for invoicing, credit/collections, expense reporting, accounts payable, and general ledger required.
