Position: Civil Engineer - Highways
Reports to: Department Manager – Civil
General Qualities
- Strong verbal and written skills are preferred.
- Can accomplish assigned tasks independently with guidance from their supervisor.
- Capable of developing solutions to problems.
- Highway design including horizontal and vertical alignment design, grading, roadway storm water management, maintenance and protection of traffic, signing and striping, utility relocation, and erosion and sediment control design.
- Preparation of associated calculations, reports, and spreadsheets.
- Preparation of Specifications. Drafting technical specifications in accordance with DOT and project-specific requirements to support contract documents
- Preparation of quantity calculations and construction cost estimates. Conducting precise quantity take-offs and develop construction cost estimates to support budgeting, bidding, and funding applications.
- Working on, and leading, design teams in all aspects of a given project to develop detailed design documents for construction plans.
- Plan preparation using AutoCAD or MicroStation. Creating and editing engineering plans and drawings using AutoCAD and/or MicroStation for submission to clients, agencies, and contractors.
- Field work including investigations, data collection, sign and roadway infrastructure inventory collection.
- Familiar with all company policies and procedures and verifies implementation and compliance.
Educational Requirements:
- Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from an accredited institute of higher learning.
- Professional Engineer’s License in NY or NJ
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in civil/site or transportation engineering.
- Qualified candidates should be experienced with highway design.
- Familiarity with NYSDOT or NJDOT agency standards and protocols is a plus.
