Position Title: Lead Shop Technician
Reports To: Manager of Shop Operations
Position Summary:
KSB, a worldwide leader in pump manufacturing and services, is looking for Lead Shop Technician to oversee and lead Technicians repair and overhauls of centrifugal pumps (such as boiler feed water, submersible and process pumps). The Lead Shop Technician will exercise practical, technical and mechanical competences and communicate effectively, both written and verbally, to the internal team and with our customers
Location: On site – Bakersfield, CA
Qualifications:
- Time Management – Manages his time to effectively run the shop activities and coordinate workloads and schedules to fulfill all customer and KSB internal requirements.
- Mechanical / Machining Skills – Knowledge of metric and imperial system; able to repair all kinds of mechanical equipment. Proficient in the use of calipers and micrometers. Strong analytical skills; uses a systematic approach to problem solving.
- Computer Skills – Familiarity in operating within MS Office products, Windows and ERP software systems environments
- Reading and Communication - Able to read and comprehend technical documentation (e.g. drawings) and to create inspection reports. Must be able to effectively communicate with customers and internal personnel in a professional manner.
- Safety – Demonstrate personal responsibility in the use of all safety and personal protective equipment.
- Electrical – Ability to connect wires according to documentation.
- Leadership Skills – Demonstrates effective supervision and development of shop personnel. Actively participates in recruitment and onboarding processes.
- Material Management – Ability to project the economic impact of the materials on hand, and schedule the auxiliary material for the needs of the Service Center.
- Professionalism – Ability to deal with pressure and conflict positively. Demonstrate self-confidence and positive attitude. Demonstrate productive use of time, per assignments and shop needs.
- Deductive Reasoning – Demonstrate ability to apply general rules to specific problems, in order to produce logical and sensible answers.
- Mechanical Skills – Knowledge of metric and imperial system and ability to perform conversions between the two measurement systems. Ability to take measurements to 0.0005” using a variety of precision measurement tools and equipment. Create drawings and sketches.
- Computer Skills – Working familiarity with MS Office products, particularly Word and Excel.
- Detail oriented – Attention to detail is required at all times.
- Travel – up to 10%, as required. Travel may be both within the U.S., as well as internationally, in order to join and participate in necessary product trainings.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Effectively conversant in in English, both written and verbal.
- 5 years of experience in pump or rotating equipment repairs, required.
- Basic understanding of electrical motor wiring, at minimum.
- Experience/certification in welding is desirable.
- Must have a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
Responsibilities:
- Oversees shop technicians pump and rotating equipment repair
- Performs diversified services, including but not limited to teardowns, inspections/troubleshooting (physical and written), voltage conversions, impeller trims/change-outs, and repairs on pumps, rotating equipment, and related product, both in the shop and in the field. Work performed according to KSB standards.
- Creates and manages shop work schedule, for optimal resource utilization to meet performance needs.
- Ensures quality and quantity of work at highest KSB standards.
- Effectively communicates with internal and external teams.
- Identifies and implements improvements to internal processes.
- Ensures the usage of proper personal protective and safety equipment.
- Read and interpret equipment manuals and work orders in performance of required maintenance and associated service(s).
- May perform and/or assist with removals, installations, troubleshooting, repairs and services on pumps, rotating equipment, and related product, in the field, at a customer site.
- Maintain accurate material, parts, and labor records.
- Utilize established processes and procedures to ensure quality, safety, and standard replication of repair.
- Adherence with OSHA safety and health rules. Comply with guidelines of ISO 9001; ISO 14001; ISO 18001.
- Organize and maintain a safe and clean work area (good housekeeping practices).
- Follows and enforces all KSB policies and procedures.
- Write clear and comprehensive inspection and test assessment reports.
- Properly and safely operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and cranes, as required.
