Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Construction Safety Manager with a background in general contracting (preferred) to oversee and enforce safety protocols on our construction site in Iron Mountain, MI.
The ideal candidate will be responsible for maintaining a safe and compliant work environment for all personnel, ensuring adherence to OSHA standards, and implementing site-specific safety programs. The Construction Safety Manager will work closely with site managers, workers, and subcontractors to proactively identify and mitigate safety risks while fostering a culture of safety on the job site.
Position Responsibilities:
- Perform daily safety walkthroughs and inspections to identify potential hazards.
- Conduct hazard assessments and recommend corrective actions to minimize risk.
- Ensure all construction activities are performed in compliance with safety regulations and best practices.
- Coordinate and manage subcontractors and laborers to ensure efficient workflow and productivity.
- Implement safety protocols in compliance with OSHA standards, ensuring a safe working environment for all personnel.
- Provide safety training to all workers, supervisors, and subcontractors on the construction site.
- Ensure all personnel are certified in necessary safety courses (e.g., first aid, CPR, fall protection).
- Oversee the implementation of risk management strategies to mitigate potential hazards related to occupational health and safety.
- Lead the investigation of accidents, incidents, and near-misses, ensuring that proper documentation is completed.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to address any concerns or changes in project scope that may arise during construction.
Position Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Construction Management, or related field (preferred).
- Relevant certifications such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST), or OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety certification (required).
- Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Safety Manager or in a similar role within the construction industry, specifically with general contracting experience.
- Demonstrated knowledge of OSHA and MIOSHA regulations, construction site safety standards, and hazard management.
- Proven experience in leading safety initiatives, risk assessments, and safety audits on large-scale construction projects.
- Proven experience in construction management or a related field is essential.
- Familiarity with construction management software tools for project tracking and reporting.
- Excellent leadership skills with the ability to motivate teams and manage diverse groups effectively.
- Willingness to be on-site in Iron Mountain, Michigan, during project construction phases.
- Effective communication skills for interacting with clients, subcontractors, and team members.
