Exciting career opportunity for a Project Manager I – Construction to join a fast-growing company in Cedar Rapids, Iowa!
Our client is actively seeking a construction management professional with 2 year of experience in Millwright or industrial construction but may consider a new graduate with appropriate degree. This individual will be responsible for finding new business and sustaining that business from year to year. Sales/Project execution objective is $6-$10 million annually.
Reports to Operations Manager with close working relationship with Project Engineers and Field Superintendents.
Summary of duties:
Project Management:
- Estimating self-performance of Millwright and Sheetmetal Labor. This will involve pulling together all Material, labor and equipment costs to perform the work scopes presented by clients.
- Learn about vendors and suppliers of services we use and who to contact for specific items.
- Develop and maintain working relationships with vendors, subs and suppliers.
- Locate talent and staff jobs. We are a union contractor with access to a labor pool we use on a regular basis. Become familiar with the talent available and match the talent with the task.
- Ability to manage the cost and execution of complex Millwright projects.
- Facilitate project closeout and gather all project costs.
- Generate invoicing to clients and be able to answer all client questions pertaining to the bills.
- Facilitate all client audit procedures as required by any client agreements.
Safety:
- Ability to identify safety hazards and implement appropriate changes. Do safety audits.
- Facilitate all client safety prequalification requirements.
Travel:
- Ability to travel. Typically, 1-2 days per week with ability to be on site for crew support during 4-5 annual weeklong shutdowns. These shutdowns require long days.
Qualifications:
- An undergraduate degree in Construction Management or Engineering preferred. Either Civil or Mechanical, or equivalent experience in a construction-related position.
- Previous experience with Millwright, Steel Erection, Sheetmetal and Industrial Construction Projects.
- Physically capable of climbing stairs and ladders. We are frequently required to climb to areas of plants to review project scopes.
- The ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- The ability to read blueprints.
- Well versed in all Microsoft office products.
- A clean driving record is a must.
- Proven record of managing projects safely.
Required Talents:
- Motivated, self-starter with attention to detail, excellent customer service skills good communication skills who is highly organized.
- Excellent time management skills.
- Ability to work well within a team structure or independently.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with Primavera P6, Microsoft Suite, AutoCAD is beneficial.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints.
- Be familiar with Microsoft Project and ability to generate a construction schedule.
