What are the responsibilities and job description for the Grocery Supervisor, Full-Time position at KTA Super Stores?
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY
The primary responsibility of a Grocery Supervisor is to oversee and manage the department staff and day-to-day operations, as well as implement strategies to increase productivity and sales. A Grocery Supervisor must be able to meet all requirements of a staff clerk, in addition to the Grocery Supervisor responsibilities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
You MUST perform the following duties regularly and up to companystandards:
- All essential job duties of the department staff.
- Promptly, courteously and efficiently greet, thank, offer assistance, and meet the needs of all customers.
- Retrieve merchandise from the store warehouse, transport it to the sales floor, and display it neatly in the correct locations.
- Keep shelves fronted (pull merchandise to the front of shelves) and well stocked throughout the day, rotating items as needed.
- Build end displays for sale and promotion merchandise, and keep it well stocked.
- Adequately staff your department by recruiting, interviewing, hiring and training employees.
- Maintain a productive staff through regular evaluation, recognition, coaching, discipline and/or dismissal. Set, monitor and consistently enforce performance standards.
- Develop employees into responsible workers and future leaders by providing opportunities for personalgrowth. Delegate responsibility and expectaccountability and feedback.
- Enforce company policies, procedures and practices through effective communication and by setting a good example.
- Maintain profitability by carefullyreviewing invoices, sales and manpower reports,making changes to operational procedures, and maintaining equipment.
- Resolve employee conflicts and other problemsimmediately.
- Attend mandatory meetings to stay up-to-date on store/company issues.
- Attend ongoing educational training to advance your leadership skills.
- Communicate regularly with supervisors, managers and other designated contacts within the organization.
NON-ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
You MUST also perform the following job duties regularly and up to company standards:
- All non-essential job duties of the department staff.
- Train department employees on job dutiesand store policies.
- Assign job duties,schedule and/or approve meal/rest breaks and make schedule changes.
- Order merchandise, supplies and equipment. Perform other dutiesand responsibilities, as assigned.
EQUIPMENT USE
- Occasionally use a computer to input andretrieve data.
CUSTOMER SERVICE EXPECTATIONS
All associates are required to provide our customers with “World Class Service” with a local touch.
- GREET all customers (be friendly, smile and make face-to-face eye contact).
- HELP all customers (listen and pay attention; be courteous; be knowledgeable about product location, services offered and store hours; offer alternatives if a product is out of stock; take the customer to the product, etc.).
- Personalize the customer’s shopping experience (make small talk, offer meal suggestions, explain current store promotions, etc.).
- THANK all customers (show appreciation and offer a parting comment).
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Frequently work indoors where it may be noisy and cold, and with a high volume of customers and co-workers.
- Occasionally work outdoors where it may be hot, humid, and sometimes raining, or in a warehouse where it is poorly ventilated and dusty, to retrieve and load merchandise to be transported to the sales floor, and to discard trash and cardboard boxes; work around fumes from the forklift.
WORK HOURS
- Generally be available for work 7 days a week and holidays, between 8:00 am and 11:00 pm.
- Be available from 3:00 am on Wednesdays.
MENTAL, PHYSICAL AND COMMUNICATION DEMANDS
· MENTAL – Frequently need to concentrate well and be alert to perform all duties. Occasionally need to use mathematical
abilities to take inventory, fill orders, do cost-code pricing, and receive freight.
· PHYSICAL – Continuously need to stand, walk, handle, use fingers, and corrected vision when performing all job duties. Frequently need to bend, squat, kneel, crouch and reach, to stock merchandise and take inventory; push and pull up to 800 lbs. and lift and carry up to 40 lbs. to retrieve merchandise from warehouse using a stock wagon or pallet jack. Occasionally
need to use wide field of vision to operate forklift and company van; climb ladder and balance to clean, stock, and face top shelves. Seldom need to visit other work sites to pick up merchandise.
· COMMUNICATION – Frequently need to listen, talk to, and understand customers, vendors, supervisors and co-workers, and assist them with their requests when doing all job duties; read product cases when receiving, storing and stocking merchandise; read shelf tags and signs and display plan when stocking shelves; read and write in communication book; write signs and special
orders. Occasionally need to talk on the telephone to call other stores for information, answer incoming calls, transfer calls to another department, meet vendor’s occasional requests, respond to Cashiers’ pages, and use the PA system.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

- Must be able to interact and communicate effectively with department staff and managers.

- Must be able to work under pressureand meet deadlines.
- Must be able to use a computer and various types of computer applications.
- Must have previousexperience or knowledge of the department job duties.
- Must have basic understanding of business operations (i.e. profit and loss).
- Previous managerial experience is preferred.
