POSITION SUMMARY
Residents and faculty from the University of Kansas School of Medicine Wichita’s Internal Medicine Department provide patient care through our clinic. As a Medical Assistant, you will play a crucial role on our clinical team, supporting new and experienced providers. We are dedicated to continuous quality improvement while providing high quality, efficient health care to patients. We have an amazing staff that promotes teamwork, supports each other, and engages in how the clinic operates.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Rooming patients for providers, including chart prep, chief complaint, HPI, medication reconciliation and obtaining vitals
Performing care-related tasks such as administration of immunizations and injections, CLIA-waived lab testing, suture / staple removal, EKGs, wound care, x-rays (if certified), and assisting with in-office procedures
Responding to telephone calls from patients, pharmacies, and other medical professionals and relaying provider orders and / or results for medications, labs, imaging, and DME
Cleaning and stocking exam rooms and sterilizing instruments
Participating in clinic process improvement activities and team meetings to ensure efficient operations
Reliable attendance and punctuality
Performing other duties as assigned
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Certificates & Licenses :
Certified Medical Assistant or RMA (Required)
Medical Assistants who recently graduated from a Medical Assistant training program must obtain CMA / RMA within 60 days of employment
Current BLS Certification is required within 30 days of hire
Education : High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED)
Experience :
One to two years medical office experience preferred
EHR experience preferred (we use eClinicalWorks)
Microsoft Office experience a plus
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
Knowledge
Knowledge of medical assisting principles, practices, and procedures (includes vitals, immunizations, medications, in-office lab testing and procedures, and sterilization methods)
Knowledge of federal, state and payer regulations and requirements related to medical assistants including patient safety, infection control (Universal Precautions), emergency operations, and patient confidentiality
Knowledge of medical terminology and medical documentation principles
Skills :
Skill in time management and prioritizing work
Skill in utilizing computerized systems to gather data, analyze results, and make recommendations
Skill in customer service and professionalism
Abilities :
Ability to problem solve and make decisions related to medical assisting duties
Ability to communicate effectively patients, coworkers, residents, physicians, and external partners
Ability to collaborate with leadership to improve clinical care and operations
Ability to work well as a team and independently
Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) (uniforms, sterile gloves, closed toe shoes)
Ability to be prompt and present during scheduled work hours
