What are the responsibilities and job description for the Maintenance Supervisor position at KUKA?
SUMMARY
Maintenance supervisors are responsible for maintaining open communication between all teams and departments on the production floor. Nurturing continuous improvement activities and lean manufacturing philosophies. Have a continuous awareness of shop activities. Accurately investigate problems, develop and plan countermeasures, and implement corrective actions.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
To perform this position successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.
- Prepare work schedules, assign work, and oversees the work product (while minimizing overtime and call-in-hours).
- Enforce all safety rules/regulations and plant policies/procedures and articles described in the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
- Coach, counsel and manage performance of direct reports.
- Work with Production, Quality, and Industrial Engineering Departments to resolve production floor processing issues.
- Assist in the development and implementation of new processes on the production floor.
- Initiate and facilitate problem resolutions and continuous improvement efforts on the production floor.
- Ensure all pertinent ISO 14001/IATF 16949 requirements are being met (as indicated in the ISO/IATF procedures and work instructions).
- Plan and implement scheduled preventative maintenance activities for production and non-production times.
- Arrange for and manage, appropriate third-party contractor support, as needed.
- Work with Team Leaders. Make sure any required documentation or activities are completed and communicated to the proper personnel.
- Monitor all lines for extra materials. Develop plans to reduce and /or eliminate scrap.
- Communicate professionally and courteously.
- Coordinate, implement, and monitor Lean Manufacturing philosophies in all areas that pertain to production floor.
- Communicate any pertinent information to the Team, Team Leaders, supervision and managers.
- Record, distribute, and monitor time and attendance, absenteeism, vacation and other miscellaneous forms and documents.
- Provide daily shift activity information.
- Discipline employees in accordance with division Policies & Procedures and Collective Bargaining Agreement.
- Responsible to ensure that all employees always adhere to safety policies and procedures, operating in full compliance with department, station, corporate, OSHA requirements.
- Shall adhere to all work, safety/ health and environmental procedures, policies and practices such as; utilizing personal protective equipment, lock out/tag out procedures, and proper attire in keeping with safety standards.
- Comply with all ISO 9001, IATF 16949 and ISO 14001 procedures and work instructions related to your job description.
- Performs all other functions as required; included are any work assignments relating to the efficient flow of work within KUKA Toledo Production Operations.
- Perform duties with minimal supervision.
- Communicate with the Maintenance Manager on any and all activities which hinder production or when safety is a concern.
- Will be responsible for opening and closing of the tool crib as required. Ensuring that the items taken have been checked out through the computer if in operation, or checked out manually if system is down.

PREFERRED EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
- Possession of a High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) is required for all new hires in all positions.
- BS in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Facilities Management or equivalent.
- Trade School
- Journeyman in Mechanical, Electrical preferred.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
- Six (6) years experience in manufacturing operations with Maintenance supervisory experience required.
- Preferred Body-in-White manufacturing environment.
- Knowledge and understanding of mechanical and electrical prints.
- Basic knowledge of PLC’s, electrical sensors, and motion control devices.
