Position Summary
Kūlia Academy is seeking a Dean of Students to lead student behavior management, foster a positive school culture, and support student well-being. This position will work closely with the school leadership team, teachers, and families to ensure a safe, engaging, and supportive learning environment. The Dean of Students will oversee student discipline, attendance, and restorative practices while promoting a positive school climate.
Please note that this is a 12-month position, not 10 month.
Key ResponsibilitiesStudent Support & Behavior Management
- Develop and implement a positive behavior support system aligned with the school’s mission.
- Monitor student conduct, enforce school policies, and oversee disciplinary interventions.
- Implement restorative justice and conflict resolution strategies.
- Support social-emotional learning (SEL) programs to promote student well-being.
- Mediate student conflicts and work collaboratively with staff and families to ensure student success.
Attendance & Student Engagement
- Monitor and improve student attendance and implement truancy intervention strategies.
- Work closely with teachers, counselors, and families to support at-risk students.
- Develop initiatives to enhance student engagement and school culture.
Family & Community Engagement
- Serve as a liaison between the school, parents, and the community to foster strong partnerships.
- Communicate disciplinary actions and student support plans to families.
- Organize parent workshops and engagement activities to strengthen school-community relationships.
School Safety & Culture
- Ensure a safe and inclusive school environment where students feel supported.
- Collaborate with school staff to develop and implement anti-bullying initiatives.
- Work with security personnel and administration to enforce school safety policies.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in Education, Counseling, or a related field preferred.
- Experience working in student discipline, behavior management, or school leadership.
- Knowledge of restorative justice practices and social-emotional learning (SEL).
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and families.
- Experience working in a diverse, inclusive, and culturally responsive school environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience as a Dean of Students or Assistant Principal.
- Familiarity with Hawaii’s educational policies and student support programs.
