The Director of Risk Management and Legal Support oversees the paralegal team and the contract review process, ensuring compliance and legal integrity across Kuper Sotheby’s International Realty operations. This role is responsible for agent compliance, risk mitigation, and policy development, while also serving as the primary, outward-facing contact for all agents regarding forms and compliance issues. Additionally, the Director escalates client-related matters, including disputes, demand letters, subpoenas, and potential legal actions, ensuring timely resolution and legal support for the brokerage.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
- Oversee Legal and Contract Compliance – Lead the paralegal team, manage the contract review process in Kuper Connect, and ensure adherence to company policies and legal requirements.
- MLS and Membership Management – Serve as the designated MLS supervisor, handling agent memberships, dues payments, and compliance with SABOR and ABOR regulations.
- Compensation Plan Renewal – Assist with agent compensation plan renewals by preparing agreements, scheduling meetings, facilitating reviews with agents and regional directors, and ensuring compliance with company policies and regulatory standards.
- Policy Development and Compliance – Assist in the creation, updates, and enforcement of brokerage policies, including the Policies and Procedures Manual and compliance with TREC regulations.
- Education and Training – Obtain CE certification to support agent training and provide guidance on legal and compliance matters through workshops and individual consultations.
- Risk Management and Dispute Resolution – Act as the first point of contact for agents facing transaction-related issues, handling "deal doctor" calls and escalating client disputes, demand letters, subpoenas, and potential legal actions as necessary.
- Industry Engagement and Representation – Actively participate with SABOR and ABOR, staying informed of regulatory updates and advocating for the company's interests in industry-related matters.
- Team Compliance Management – Register and oversee teams to ensure compliance with TREC policies and internal standards, providing ongoing monitoring and guidance.
- Referral and Developer Agreements – Manage referral agreements and assist with the structuring and negotiation of developer contracts to align with company objectives.
- Alumni Group Management – Elevate and manage the company's Alumni Group based on Golden Handoff principles, fostering engagement and networking opportunities for former agents.

Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in legal support, contract management, or real estate compliance, with a strong focus on risk management and policy development within a real estate brokerage environment
- Minimum of 5 years of supervisory/management experience
- Experience managing MLS processes, agent onboarding and offboarding, and compliance with industry regulations (TREC, SABOR, ABOR)
- Proven ability to oversee contract review processes, develop policies and procedures, and provide transaction support to real estate professionals
- Experience in handling dispute resolution, agent compensation plans, and team registration in compliance with industry standards
- Strong background in leading and managing legal or compliance teams with the ability to implement operational efficiencies
- CE Certification (or willingness to obtain)
- Strong knowledge of TREC, TAR, NAR, SABOR, and ABOR regulations Proficiency in contract review and risk management
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- Experience with independent contractor agreements and compensation planning
- Ability to develop and implement compliance protocols
