Position summary:
The QC Lab Analyst supports the operation of the Kuraray WW process quality control lab by maintaining instruments, being an ISO quality resource, and providing 24/7 lab operations support. The QC Lab Analyst role serves as a Responsible Care Coordinator, leads the waste, recycling, and asbestos programs, and maintains the Chemical Inventory.
Responsibilities:
- Maintain instruments: routine maintenance, standards testing, calibration, troubleshooting, organize Vendor PM quotes and visits, and provide remote and 24/7 support
- Maintain lab methods and operating directions
- Complete acquisition of all new lab equipment: quotes and cost approval, install, qualify, write lab methods, and train technicians
- Maintain all laboratory chemicals and new chemical introduction (K-15). Prepare chemical solutions and calibration standards.
- Supplies: inventory and order laboratory supplies to maintain operations of QC Lab
- Evaluate Process Technicians in lab skill demonstration
- Lab recordkeeping: TA/TOI/Closing reports, laboratory data books, LIMS/sample manager
- Complete testing of samples for production, as needed to support operations
- ISO9001: site resource, internal auditor, participate in internal and external audits, maintain lab to ISO9001:2015 standards
- ISO14001/RC14001: site resource, lead auditor, maintain site program to RC14001:2023 standards, participate in internal and external audits
- Waste Program: create and maintain waste profiles, coordinate pickups with vendors, authorize waste manifests, and monitor site VSQG limits
- Recycling Program: site resource, request additional pickups as needed, review vendor contract, monitor supplies and state of program
- Asbestos Program: site resource, provide assistance with inquiries for past testing and removal, and request testing as needed
- Perform the annual chemical inventory for the site and monitor for updates. Participate in bi-annual chemical inventory audit.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma/GED equivalent with at least two years of laboratory experience
- Knowledge and experience working with lab instruments such as Spectrometers, FTIRs, Refractometers, Gas Chromatography, and pH analyzers
- Experience with instrument and equipment upgrades, installation, and routine and non-routine maintenance
- Ability to independently multi-task, organize, and prioritize workload
- Chemical handling and disposal knowledge
- Laboratory technique experience such as weighing, measuring, pipetting, and mixing
- Mathematic capabilities to apply to mixing solutions, data analysis, and control charts
- Proven experience with verbal and written communication, presentations, creative thinking, teamwork, research, and analytical skills
- Proficient in use of common computer programs such as MS Office, SharePoint, web browsers, and Adobe
- Ability to lift 50 pounds
- Candidates must have a valid driver's license
Preferred Qualifications:
- Four year science degree or related certification with two years of lab experience
- Experience using and maintaining LIMS system
- ISO certification knowledge and experience
