Medical Laboratory Technician - RESPONSIBILITIES (listed are included but not limited to)
- The MLT performs laboratory tests in hematology, chemistry, urinalysis, serology, microbiology, and blood banking.
- Prepare specimens for analysis, ensuring proper handling and storage.
- Operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory instruments and equipment.
- Conduct quality control checks to ensure the accuracy and reliability of test results.
- The MLT follows standard operating procedures (SOPs) and safety guidelines to maintain a sterile and hazard-free environment.
- Assist in blood donor screenings, including medical history assessments and vital sign measurements. Participate in blood collection, processing, and manufacturing of blood components.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory guidelines such as CLIA, CAP, and FDA standards.
- Maintain accurate records of test results, inventory, and quality control data.
- Provide input on laboratory improvements, new technologies, and best practices.
- The MLT trains and mentors new staff or students in laboratory techniques and procedures.
Medical Laboratory Technician - REQUIREMENTS
- Associate's degree in Medical Laboratory Science or a related field from a NAACLS- or ABHES-accredited program.
- Minimum of one year of experience in a clinical laboratory setting.
- Shall be certified by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP), American Medical Technologists (AMT). Must have certification in Current Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association (AHA) or client.
