What are the responsibilities and job description for the Product Development & Coating Chemist position at KURZ Transfer Products LP?
Lead the new product development for thin film/coating technologies base on market need and product improvement projects
Maintain and/or develop records of standardized testing
Have a solid and supportive understanding of sustainability requirements for the industry and corporate practices/policies and translate these into daily work and development projects
Work with our global development teams to ensure production and sourcing standards are maintained
Coating, lacquers, pigments, inks, and adhesive formulation sourcing standards should be maintained whenever possible
Work with sales and product management teams as needed to define process and/or product improvement projects and reformulation needs to fit market demands
Manage pilot production runs, testing, and commercial production scale-up
Develop and/or specify new product requirements and determine application guidelines
Attend and/or facilitate customer trials and technical service visits to ensure market demands are satisfied
Key supporter of production processing requirements and troubleshooting
Advocate and supporter of quality control, sales, product management, and technical service departments
Frequently update global headquarters technical group and US headquarters key stakeholders on project status against key milestones and objectives
Expert knowledge of market requirements and competitive product performance
Lead and support supplier reviews for raw materials that will improve product performance, manufacturing processes, and cost savings
Lead, evaluate and assist with cost saving opportunities and lean initiatives
Maintain and follow all work site rules for safety, waste, chemical handling, and disposal
Skills and Abilities
Strong communication, interpersonal, problems solving, and project management skills
Ability to work independently and in a fast paced, team-oriented environment and culture
Ability to supervise, lead, and influence throughout all organizational levels including any direct or in-direct reports
Ability to travel on an as-needed basis (20-30%)
Proven track record for recording, communicating, and managing multiple projects simultaneously
Experience and Education
Minimum BS in Chemistry or related discipline (master's degree or higher is a plus)
3 – 5 years of experience in:
Formulating, developing, and testing coatings, inks, lacquers and adhesives for printing or related technology industries
Familiar and proficient with traditional industry related lab equipment and standardized testing methodologies
Lab to commercial production development and management experience required
Experience with gravure, offset, flexographic, silk screen, and digital printing technologies and processes required
Working knowledge of transfer decoration technologies and applications a plus
Education
Required
Bachelors or better in Chemistry
