POSITION: SPANISH TEACHER
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Appropriate Massachusetts Teacher Licensure.
- Bachelor's Degree with major or minor in Portuguese and/or Spanish.
- Demonstrated ability to read, write, understand, and speak the Portuguese and/or Spanish language
REPORTS TO: School Principal
SUPERVISES: None
JOB GOAL:
To motivate each pupil to develop competencies, knowledge, and skills in aurally comprehending, speaking, reading and writing the Portuguese/Spanish language in accordance with each pupil's ability; to interpret to pupils the culture of the countries where Portuguese/Spanish is spoken; to discover and develop special talents of pupils in Portuguese/Spanish communication.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Teaches skills and knowledge in the Portuguese/Spanish language to secondary pupils utilizing course of study adopted by the School Committee and other appropriate learning activities. Modern foreign language teachers (Portuguese/Spanish) teach aural comprehension, speaking, reading, and writing.
- Develops lesson plans and supplementary materials compatible with basic instructional philosophy.
- Provides learning experiences that develop the basic communication skills, utilizing cassette recorders and other electronic equipment as appropriate.
- Provides individualized and small-group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil.
- Instructs pupils in safe operation of electronic equipment used in language instruction and makes minor adjustments and requests repairs as required.
- Develops pupil understanding and appreciation of culture of countries where Portuguese/Spanish is spoken.
- Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive classroom environment.
- Evaluates each pupil's progress in aural comprehension, speaking, reading and writing the Portuguese/Spanish language in relationship to the level being taught.
- Communicates with parents and school counselors on pupil progress.
- Identifies pupil needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in helping pupils solve health, attitude, and learning problems.
- Participates in curriculum and other developmental programs.
- Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the School Department, and/or in self-selected professional growth activities such as foreign language workshops.
- All other responsibilities that are listed in the collective bargaining agreement between the Fall River Educators' Association and the Fall River School Committee.
SALARY AND TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
In accordance with the Fall River Educators' Association contract. Continued employment is contingent on work performance, program need, and funding.
