Position Summary : The Certified Peer Mentor for Substance Abuse provides guidance, support, and encouragement to individuals in recovery from substance use disorders. Drawing from personal lived experience and formal training, the peer mentor helps clients navigate the challenges of recovery by offering emotional support, resources, and advocacy. This role promotes hope and empowerment while fostering a recovery-oriented environment.
All employees must be at least 21 years of age
Education : High school diploma or equivalent
Licensure / Certification :
Valid driver’s license and auto insurance
Experience and Skills (Preferred) :
In substance use recovery for a minimum of 1 year
Good interpersonal and communication skills
Flexibility in assigned working hours; including evenings and / or weekends
Essential Duties :
- Obtain a Level I Kansas Peer Mentor Certificate within 30 days of employment and Level II Kansas Peer Mentor Certificate within one year of employment
- Work with drug and alcohol counselors to provide integrated, person-centered support that meets individuals where they are, focusing on reducing the risks and negative consequences associated with substance use.
- Assist in providing structured and constructive activities that support the client's treatment.
- Assist clients with learning and practicing daily living and social skills.
- Assist client in problem solving and completing daily living tasks as needed.
