Position Title: Mortgage Loan Underwriter
Type: Full-Time Permanent
Location: Jacksonville, FL (Hybrid schedule available after training) and Phoenix, AZ (Remote, but candidates must reside in Phoenix location).
Pay: $37 Hourly (Initial pay rate; potential for increase upon completion of training and obtaining authorities).
Start Date: Thursday, March 20th, 2025
Time Off: Mandatory training will last approximately 4 months. New hires cannot take time off during training.

Position Overview:
The Mortgage Loan Underwriter’s primary responsibilities include reviewing mortgage files submitted to Underwriting. This involves calculating income, analyzing debt and assets, and conducting an in-depth review of appraisals and titles. Additional tasks include entering data into the client’s loan operating system, using automated underwriting systems to determine approvals, and clearing conditions for Final Approval.
Candidates must possess a strong sense of urgency, excellent organizational and communication skills, and proficiency in PC systems, while also thriving in a team-oriented environment.

Essential Job Functions:
- Underwrite loans in accordance with guidelines, utilizing Automated Underwriting Systems (AUS) or manual underwriting processes.
- Utilize the client’s loan operating system effectively.
- Evaluate and ensure that overall loan documents are accurate, complete, and compliant.
- Identify and/or clear red flags or alerts.
- Issue loan decisions and condition files accordingly.
- Review and approve conditions for compliance and completion of loan files.
- Interpret and apply client overlays and investor guideline requirements.
- Resolve pre- and post-closing issues related to underwriting.
- Assist processors and loan officers in understanding underwriting decisions and conditions.

Requirements:
- Experience: Minimum 4 years of current conventional mortgage loan underwriting experience.
o Strong knowledge of income calculations, tax return reviews, credit report analysis, and identifying red flags.
o Basic understanding of appraisals and ineligible properties.
- Technical Skills:
o Thorough working knowledge of GSE underwriting guidelines.
o Proficiency in manual and automated underwriting engines (DU/LP).
o Strong capability to work in multiple systems in a paperless environment.
- Soft Skills:
o Exceptional analytical, interpersonal, and communication skills (both verbal and written).
o Detail-oriented with excellent time management abilities.
o Flexibility to work in a production-oriented environment.
o Strong team collaboration skills.
- Preferred Qualifications:
o NMLS-MLO Licensure is preferred but not required.
