About The Role
The EHS Technician will support environmental compliance and workplace safety programs, ensuring all employees work in a safe and compliant manner in accordance with OSHA, MIOSHA, EPA, and state environmental regulations. This role involves conducting inspections, implementing safety and environmental programs, training employees, and fostering a strong safety and environmental culture throughout the facility.
Key Responsibilities
Safety Responsibilities:
- Conduct regular safety inspections, including start-up reviews, ladder inspections, and equipment audits.
- Develop and deliver new hire safety orientations, mobile equipment training, and annual safety training.
- Investigate safety incidents, review camera footage, and assist with root cause analysis.
- Monitor and maintain safety postings, facility maps, and documentation related to safety programs.
- Oversee and maintain safety supplies, including PPE inventory and the safety boot/uniform program.
- Ensure compliance with LOTO (Lockout/Tagout), machine guarding, confined space, and fall protection requirements.
- Perform and document weekly checks of safety equipment (e.g., eyewash stations, emergency showers, fire extinguishers, and first aid kits) to ensure functionality and compliance.
- Assist with environmental reporting and compliance documentation, including hazardous waste, air emissions, wastewater, and stormwater monitoring.
- Support waste management programs, including proper handling, labeling, and disposal of hazardous and non-hazardous materials.
- Conduct facility environmental inspections to ensure compliance with EPA, state, and local environmental regulations.
- Assist in tracking key environmental metrics, such as energy use, air quality, and waste reduction initiatives.
- Ensure that spill containment, chemical storage, and emergency response procedures are properly implemented and followed.
- Conduct and participate in weekly safety walkarounds and plant tours to identify hazards and recommend improvements.
- Compile, analyze, and present EHS data to management, employees, and relevant stakeholders.
- Assist in developing and maintaining EHS policies, procedures, and training programs.
- Maintain compliance with company, federal, and state EHS regulations.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety, Environmental Science, or a related field preferred.
- 2 years of experience in industrial or manufacturing EHS roles
- Familiarity with OSHA, MIOSHA, and environmental regulations (EPA, state, and local requirements).
- Experience creating and presenting safety and environmental data to teams, leadership, and regulatory agencies.
- Ability to walk long distances and navigate an extensive facility as part of daily responsibilities.
- Must be able to lift 40 pounds and work in varying industrial environments.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to work across departments and interact respectfully with diverse individuals.
- MIOSHA certification and CPR, First Aid, and AED certification preferred (or willingness to obtain).
