Basic Function: The department manager oversees a manufacturing department and manages a large group of employees. The manager ensures that the department meets its production goals, trains employees, and manages employees' timecards, attendance, and performance.
Primary Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate and correct timecard notes and approvals for employees.
- Accurately manage and record employee attendance, including but not limited to call-offs, paid time off requests, FMLA time, etc.
- Ensure employees adhere to company policies and practices. Address any safety, unsatisfactory behavior, attendance, or job performance-related issues promptly and discipline in accordance with the company's discipline process.
- Enforce and manage the company's safety standards, ensuring employees follow safety protocols.
- Manage the department's production output and ensure that the product meets SENCO's efficiency and quality standards.
- Manage department's scrap rates.
- Heavily involved in the production planning process. Effectively and promptly communicates headcount changes to the production scheduler to ensure production stays on schedule.
- Oversee employee training throughout the department to ensure that employees are trained correctly and safely.
- Conduct unbiased and truthful employee performance reviews, effectively communicating any areas of improvement and highlighting any strengths and weaknesses an employee might have.
- Conduct interviews for open positions in the department. Work within SENCO's interview guidelines to ensure that the interview complies with state and federal employment laws.
- Communicate daily with employees about production quotas, business updates, or other information. Conduct toolbox meetings bi-weekly with all shifts.
- Conduct cycle counts on a monthly basis.
- Complete other job duties as assigned by the manager.
- Must have at least 5 years of experience in a supervisor or management position in a manufacturing industry.
- Preferably has a bachelor’s in industrial management or other related degree, as well as applicable years of experience, would also be accepted in place of a degree.
- Has experience in managing a team of more than 10 employees.
- Mechanical background is strongly preferred but not required.
- Has clear and concise verbal and written communication, including active listening.
- Has strong adaptability skills and can adapt to changing situations and work with many personalities.
- Has basic math skills.
- Has 1 – 3 years of experience working with JD Edwards.
- Showcases a good attitude to help foster a collaborative and supportive team environment.
- Must lead by example, demonstrating professionalism, integrity, and a strong work ethic in all aspects of their work.
- Is proficient in Microsoft office.
- Required to work weekends on a sporadic basis, depending on business needs.
- Can commute to the office daily.
- Must be able to read and write.
- Must be able to follow oral and written instructions.
- Must be able to withstand continuous exposure to disagreeable noise, dirt, and fumes within the OSHA allowance.
- Must be comfortable working in an environment where there is possible exposure to lost-time accidents, including but not limited to the hands, arms, feet, or back.
- Must be able to walk throughout SENCO's manufacturing campus, up to 530,000 square feet.
- Must be able to work off shifts and/or weekends when assigned, sometimes on short notice.
