Position: Assistant Director of Drama

Hours: Part-time (8 to 12 hours per month)

Location:L.A. GOAL in Culver City, CA

Salary: $22 - 23 per hour

Supervisors: Director of Drama, Executive Director & Assistant Director

L.A. GOAL is a nonprofit organization providing opportunities for adults with developmental disabilities to increase their independence and employability through education, vocational, and recreational programs.

DESCRIPTION/OBJECTIVE:

The Assistant Director of Drama will work closely with Members of L.A. GOAL to develop original theatre pieces through collaboration, improvisation, and storytelling. Assistant Director of Drama will assist the Director in overseeing the creative process and facilitate the development of original theatre pieces to be showcased for the public.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Rehearsals will primarily be based at L.A. GOAL, with occasional off-site performances at various venues in the community. Rehearsals are held typically one or two Saturdays per month from 12pm-3 pm. Trained L.A. GOAL staff will be in the room to always assist.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Assist in directing theatre workshops focusing on improvisation, storytelling, and acting with an objective of developing new theatre piece to be performed for the public.

· Assist in overseeing the technical aspects of performance/production including stage setup, lighting, and sound.

· Assist in collaborating with other staff members to promote and publicize performances.

· Assist with administrative tasks related to the theatre program, such as scheduling and communication with participants and families.

REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:

· Bachelor’s degree in Theatre, Performing Arts, or related field (preferred) or minimum of 2 years college education in Theater Arts.

· Strong understanding of improvisation, theatre games and storytelling techniques.

· Experience working with individuals with disabilities (preferred but not necessary).

· Ability to work collaboratively in a diverse team environment.
