Duties
- Perform grooming services including bathing, brushing, clipping, and styling pets according to breed standards or customer preferences.
- Assess the condition of each pet's coat and skin, identifying any issues that may require attention or referral to a veterinarian.
- Handle pets safely and humanely during grooming sessions, ensuring their comfort and minimizing stress.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the grooming area, including tools and equipment.
- Communicate effectively with pet owners regarding grooming needs, recommendations, and aftercare instructions.
- Provide additional services such as nail trimming, ear cleaning, and teeth brushing as needed.
- Keep accurate records of each pet's grooming history and preferences for future reference.
Skills
- Strong animal handling skills with experience in dog handling and training preferred.
- Knowledge of animal care practices, including basic first aid for pets.
- Experience in animal restraint techniques to ensure safety during grooming sessions.
- Customer service skills to effectively interact with pet owners and address their concerns or requests.
- Familiarity with kennel operations or experience as a veterinary assistant is a plus.
- Ability to work with various breeds of dogs and other animals, understanding their unique grooming needs.
- A background in equine care is beneficial but not required.
