What are the responsibilities and job description for the Chip Seal Laborer position at L.L. Pelling Company, Inc.?
LL Pelling is looking for a motivated general laborer to join one of our chip seal crews. Candidates must have reliable transportation to reach the designated meetup site in North English, where the crew meets, before carpooling to job sites in a company-provided truck. The position involves performing a wide range of manual labor tasks on heavy construction projects from late April through the end of October. Although this position is seasonal, we offer a full year-round benefits package.
Schedule
Long days that may include weekend work based on weather, project size, and location.
Responsibilities
- Shovel, lute, and rake aggregate (rock).
- Load and unload trucks, haul and hoist materials, and transport tools to the job site.
- Operate a variety of hand and power tools.
- Control traffic on job sites by flagging to guide traffic through work areas.
- Maintain a clean job site - pick up all tools and equipment daily.
Required Skills/Abilities
- Must have regular dependable attendance to be physically present each day.
- Must be able to drive to job sites and company locations using company-provided vehicles.
- Able to listen to, understand, and follow instructions in English.
- Able to pass a pre-employment drug screen.
Education and Experience
- Valid driver's license with insurable driving record.
- Be at least 18 years of age.
Physical Requirements
- Able to work in all weather conditions.
- Must have physical strength, balance, hand-eye coordination, and stamina necessary to perform strenuous manual tasks for long periods of time.
- Must be able to work safely alongside moving construction equipment and open lanes of traffic in both day and night conditions.
Work Environment
Job hazards include exposure to dust, noise, fumes, and all types of weather conditions. The noise level is usually loud. Laborers are regularly exposed to and work alongside moving heavy construction equipment, pedestrians, and open lanes of traffic in both day and night conditions. Vehicles may travel in excess of 70 mph.
