With the upcoming retirement of our Payroll Administrator, we're restructuring our office to better streamline our operations. As part of our team, you'll play a key role in managing payroll and supporting HR initiatives like onboarding, benefits, and compliance. This role is split 50/50 between payroll and HR tasks, with the main focus being on processing payroll accurately and on time each week. The pay range is $23.35-$27.45 an hour based on experience.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Daily monitoring of timekeeping system to ensure all records are correct and ready for payroll processing.
  • Process weekly payroll in accordance with company policies and state laws; review, edit, and submit payroll by the required deadline.
  • Conduct new hire orientation and ensure completion of required paperwork/benefits (E-Verify).
  • Prepare employee separation notices and related documentation.
  • Submit weekly tax payments, quarterly taxes, and year-end reports, including W-2s.
  • Administer new hire benefits, changes, and terminations via third-party platforms.
  • Reconcile and approve monthly benefit invoices.
  • Provide support and guidance to management and staff on payroll and benefits-related matters.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
  • Assist with communicating job openings and benefits information to employees.
  • Support special projects or events as needed.

REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES

  • Consistent, dependable attendance and the ability to be physically present each workday. No remote work.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Strong knowledge of federal and state employment laws.
  • Ability to identify and proactively resolve issues and patterns.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to engage at all levels.
  • Strong reading and interpretation skills for policies and procedures, with a commitment to confidentiality.
  • Experience fostering a welcoming, respectful environment.
  • Ability to provide exceptional customer service and build strong relationships across all employee levels and with vendors.
  • Exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Self-motivated and capable of independently managing work activities.
  • Fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
  • A minimum of 2-3 years of experience in payroll and benefits administration.
  • Valid driver’s license with an insurable driving record.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
This position involves extended periods of sitting at a desk in a cubicle using a computer and office equipment.

  • Ability to drive a company vehicle to LL Pelling locations, job sites, etc.
  • Clear speech and hearing for effective communication.
  • Ability to safely walk job sites on uneven surfaces (gravel, asphalt, slopes, ditches), around moving equipment, and in high-speed traffic.
  • Occasionally lift, push, pull, or carry up to 25 pounds, mobility within the office environment.
  • Perform various physical movements (stand, bend, twist, kneel, crouch, etc.).
