Duties / Responsibilities of this position :
- Develop CAE material models for composites and adhesives for linear, fatigue and crash applications and define CAE specific material test procedures.
- Develop and improve the accuracy of CAE modeling and joining techniques, specifically to composites, injection molding, pultrusion and extrusion process and improve the correlation of component and vehicle level assessments related to crash application.
- To investigate and / or develop new product concepts and processes and provide structural solutions to solve impact / crash, NVH, and durability problems as prioritized and outlined by the CAE Supervisor and internal and external customers.
- To give technical support to new product opportunities involving customer teams, L&L PD, R&D, Manufacturing, Quality, Plant Support and our suppliers. The expectation of this responsibility is to communicate to both internal and external customer teams in an effective, timely manner.
- Travel to support L&L CAE activities at customer work sites as needed. This may include serving as an on-site CAE Engineer at local customer locations, professionally representing L&L to customers and suppliers.
- Flexible thinking in accomplishment of tasks and creative problem solving needed.
- Will work with other internal L&L departments and external customers, so affability and self-direction needed.
- Perform all required tasks, studies and projects in a timely manner satisfying agreed upon timing requirements with the CAE Supervisor along with internal and external customers.
- To understand basic principles of design related to L&L Intellectual Properties and awareness of potential uncertain properties which need to be avoided in part design.
- Maintain an organized physical and electronic (Computer, network, & file system) work area.
- Cross check other CAE Engineers work when requested.
- Continually strive to develop the tools / methods required to improve L&L CAE capabilities.
- Professionally represent L&L to all customers and suppliers, maintaining an honest and trust ensuring relationship with all internal and external customers.
- Effectively communicate material properties and material cards with other CAE Engineers, CAE Manager, R&D, and global colleagues as needed.
- Interface with R&D Department, Product Development and PD Lab and coordinate tests required for material characterization for CAE analysis. This includes test specification, testing oversight, data analysis and solver integration / verification along with complete documentation of process and results.
