Position- Financial Specialist, Grand Ledge, MI
Summary
As a Financial Specialist, you’ll play a key role in helping patients navigate their financial obligations with confidence and ease. You’ll connect with patients to arrange payments on past-due accounts, set up manageable payment plans, and collect pre-payments for surgical procedures. Additionally, you’ll collaborate with physicians and management to ensure timely follow-ups on outstanding accounts, following established procedures to maintain financial health and patient satisfaction.
Supervisory Responsibilities
This role has no supervisory responsibilities.
Essential Functions

- Follows established LOPC collection policy for past due accounts.
- Runs upcoming appointment report and reviews for past due balances.
- Contacts patients and prepares lists for the doctors to review.
- Upon review from physician, processes accounts according to the results of the Doctor Review, including sending to collections specialist.
- Speaks with patients to set payment arrangements as necessary. Provides patient payment counseling as appropriate, including offering assistance options.
- Contacts patients regarding returned checks and adds fee.
- Coordinates the collection of payments from self-pay surgical, cosmetic, premium IOL and Lasik patients prior to services being rendered and according to LOPC payment policies.
- Participates in daily phone que rotation, providing exceptional customer service when responding to patient inquires.
- Attends and participates in meetings and training
- Complies with rules, regulations, policies, and procedures for collecting payments.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Physical demands/potential hazards
- Must be able to sit for prolonged periods, must be able to use eyes, hands, and body to maintain office dexterity and mobility; may be required to lift typical office equipment up to 20 pounds.

Education and Experience
Education requirements that are job related and consistent with business necessity
- High School Diploma or G.E.D. required
- Previous medical billing experience with knowledge of billing related reporting.
- Three to five years’ experience in health-care (billing or clinical).
- Experience working with medical payers and vision insurance.
- Demonstrated knowledge of medical terminology with high proficiency in general medical office procedures including HIPPA regulations.
- Working knowledge of medical billing systems, Nextgen a plus.
- Working knowledge of CPT and ICD-9 & ICD-10 coding system.
Leadership and management experience
Leadership requirement that are job-related and consistent with business necessity.
