Manager – US R & I Environment, Health & Safety (EHS)

The US Research and Innovation (R&I) Environment, Health & Safety department provides direct support to and collaborates with all US based Research and Innovation departments so they can achieve their business objectives in a safe and environmentally friendly and sustainable manner. The group is seeking to add an EHS professional who, under minimal supervision, is responsible for the development, implementation and evaluation of all EHS programs within Research and Innovation as well as compliance with L’Oréal standards/policies, local, federal and state regulations.
Ii. Principal Accountabilities
Accountable and responsible for the development, implementation and evaluation of all Environmental, Health & Safety programs for US R&I locations. Manage EHS KPI’s and analyze trends Provides supplemental EHS training to R&I employees. Develops trainings, policies and procedures governing EHS compliance. Leads and / or participates in EHS compliance assessments. Manage EHS Committees and Emergency Response Teams. Investigates and manage workplace incidents, near misses and helps ensure that corrective and preventive actions are implemented. Evaluates potential employee exposure to hazardous conditions. Monitor compliance with current policies and update when necessary Work with departments to implement their EHS programs Manage L’Oréal internal behavior-based safety programs: SIO/MESUR program Manage Contractor management program Teams with HR to manage Workmen’s Compensation cases. Manage OSHA logs Manage Validation and Inspection programs Manage 5S program Maintain Global EHS partnership within other divisions of L’Oréal Interface with local, state and federal agencies Some travel required (

Iii. Job Requirements/Desirable Training And Experience
- Strong knowledge EHS laws, regulations and compliance systems.
- A bachelor’s degree in occupational safety, industrial hygiene, environmental science, environmental engineering or a closely related area. Advanced degree is a plus
- A minimum of ten years of experience working in the EHS field.
- A professional certification in one or more of the following: Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) (preferred), Certified Safety Professional (CSP) (preferred), Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM), Certified Professional Environmental Auditor (CPEA) or Qualified Environmental Professional (QEP).
- Prior hands-on work experience supporting EHS compliance.
- Prior experience supporting EHS in cosmetics or pharmaceutical research laboratories (preferred but not required).
- Excellent interpersonal, communication (written/oral), and organizational skills required.
- Advanced computer skills including Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel and SharePoint.
- Must be able to work effectively in a matrix organization that provides services to multiple business partners.
