Job Description:
L3Harris is currently seeking an Engineering Director to lead the Communication Systems Brevard Engineering Organization. The Engineering Director will manage a staff of Advanced Concept Engineers (ACEs) and Senior Engineering Managers to lead a 200 multi-disciplinary functional engineering organization in support of the Brevard portfolio. The Brevard portfolio supports Army and Navy programs in support of the Broadband Communcations Systems (BCS) sector and International systems for the Tactical Communications (TCOM) sector. This role will coordinate all engineering needs for the site and direct engineering execution for the programs, proposals and pursuits in this portfolio. The Engineering Director will report to the Vice President of Engineering at the segment level with a strong dotted line responsibility to the BCS and TCOM sectors
Position Responsibilities Include:
- Create vision, strategy, and execute against the plan to help build a best in class Engineering team
- Coordinate all engineering support required by the business area to include programs, proposals and pursuits
- Provide mentorship and growth opportunities for engineering and management staff within the organization
- Direct engineering program technical, schedule and cost performance for projects within the business area to include proposal reviews and approval and engineering program reviews and review/oversight of key technical decisions
- Provide thought leadership to define the next generation systems
- Hire, attract and retain top talent, creating a cohesive culture that fosters innovation, execution, transparency and collaboration
- Ensure allocation of resources is aligned with business priorities and identify solutions for the optimal utilization of resources
- Support execution and performance to the Sector Annual Operating Plan
- Serve as a hands-on engineering leader, who easily gains the respect of senior and junior engineers
- Responsible for all proposals in Directorate, including cost and technical volumes
- Contribute to new business pursuits by growing cross-functional relationships in new business development and across business areas
- Technical training of the systems and functional organization and advancement of the state-of-the-art technology through appropriate industry interaction and continued education of technical staff
- Partner and work very closely with the Engineering Leadership staff, Business Development and Program Management to ensure strategy alignment, execution of projects and cross-team collaboration to jointly achieve the sector objectives
- Approve technical solutions for programs and proposals within the business area
- Review and approve cost estimates and schedules for programs and proposals within the business area
Qualifications: (refer to Career Framework)
- Bachelor’s degree (Master’s degree preferred) in Electrical engineering, Communications Engineering, Systems Engineering or equivalent technical field and 15 years of engineering/ engineering management experience.
- Ability to obtain a U.S. security clearance
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Advanced degree in Engineering and/or Management
- Active U.S. security clearance, TS/SCI preferred
- Deep experience in Systems Engineering and working within the Defense industry experience
- Experience with International customers
- Experience and demonstrated competence in technical leadership (project engineer or other technical lead) for large complex programs
- Experience managing the engineering content of large DoD proposals and/or new business pursuits
- Experience in system level development, requirements definition, analysis, integration and risk mitigation for large communications systems
- Experience with EVMS, metrics, and data driven decisions
- Demonstrated problem solving and technical/programmatic judgment
- Strong team player with experience managing highly technical teams
- Strong sense of ownership
- Ability to communicate confidently and concisely to both engineers and non-engineers
- Proven ability to translate the vision/strategy into clear priorities and direction

- Experience navigating matrix organizations to identify key stakeholders and create efficiencies in related efforts
- Experience leading development and production of modem and wireless communication systems for line of sight and satellite applications

- Experience developing and/or leading analog and digital hardware projects
- Experience leading cross functional discipline engineering teams
- Experience providing compelling technological briefings to executive level stakeholders
- Experience managing multiple layers of management
