The primary purpose of this position is to assist La Cap Federal Credit Union to live out its mission, “Improve the financial well-being of our members.” To meet this goal the position must deliver outstanding service to both internal and external members. The primary function of the Commercial Loan Officer is to grow our business loan portfolio while maintaining a high level of service to our business members through personal service. Responsible for counseling and interviewing members regarding loan services. Ensure that proper documentation is collected to maintain acceptable credit standards and to conform to credit union policies. Maintain a working knowledge of all credit union products, services and operations with emphasis on business products.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: include but not limited to the following

1. Be the primary contact for members or non-members seeking business loans and to grow the overall business loan portfolio.

2. Gather and complete necessary documentation needed to determine business needs, loan structure, membership eligibility, and financial information from business members applying for loans.

3. Work closely with our business loan vendors that aid in underwriting of business loan requests, document preparation, and annual reviews.

4. Review and pre-underwrite business credit requests including purchase participations, assess risk, note mitigating factors if any, and assign risk rating per the approved and current scale.

5. Manage the business loan portfolio to ensure it complies with current policies, regulatory guidelines, concentration limits, processing timelines and credit quality.

6. Prepare Business Loan Credit Presentations and present them to the Business Loan Committee.

7. Make recommendations on risk ratings and loan structures based on the evaluation of the borrowers’ creditworthiness, collateral sufficiency and borrowing needs.

8. Will work closely with administrative staff for commercial lending to establish and maintain proper follow-up and documentation for all commercial lending. Aid in the scheduling of all loan closing.

9. Plan, coordinate and attend events during working hours and outside of working hours to network with the general business community and professional trade associations in the communities that we serve.

10. Look for cross-sell opportunities and offer suggestions that would benefit the member and the credit union.

11. Obtain and maintain knowledge of all credit union services that are available to members.

12. Train and support Commercial Loan Processor with the loan closing processes.

13. Understands compliance issues and attends training as they relate to credit union services including, but not limited to: Bank Secrecy Act, Reg P and Patriot Act

14. Work closely with branch staff, business development staff, Sales and Marketing, and other key business member contact positions to enhance sales efforts for business loans throughout the credit union.

15. Perform other duties and responsibilities including but not limited to projects as required or assigned by management.

Education and/or Experience:

· High school diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor’s degree in finance or a business-related field is preferred.

· Five plus years of previous experience in business lending with a financial institution is preferred.

· 2 years of commercial sales experience preferred

· Must have a demonstrable record of establishing new business and in setting and achieving annual goals.

· Ability to deal with numbers effectively, proficient math knowledge.

· Ability to coordinate, process and analyze lending documentation and decisions.

· Ability to input and retrieve data from computer.

· Must be able to effectively analyze corporate and business tax returns and financial statements

· Must be able to manage ongoing administration of the business loan portfolio.

· Must be self-directed, motivated, and possess excellent oral and written communication skills

· Must be able to work in a self-directed or team environment

· Proficiently use related lending software programs and Microsoft Office products (Word / Excel)

· Strong attention to detail/analytical skills
