Job Title : Chief Financial Officer (CFO) - healthcare organization

Supervisor : Chief Executive Officer (CEO)

Location : Washington , DC or Hyattsville, MD

Classification : Full-time, Exempt

Position Summary :

We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to join our leadership team at a mission driven Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) that serves our Latin American population in the Greater Washington DC area.

The CFO will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the organization’s financial operations, ensuring fiscal sustainability and compliance with local, state, and federal regulations. The ideal candidate is fully bilingual in English and Spanish, and has significant experience in healthcare financial management, preferably in the nonprofit sector.

Required Education and Experience :

  • CPA certification is preferred.
  • At Least 5 years in a healthcare setting.
  • Minimum 10 years of progressive financial management experience.
  • In-depth understanding of nonprofit accounting , federal grant compliance , and FQHC regulations (including HRSA and 340B programs).
  • Proven experience in financial leadership , strategic planning, and fiscal management within a healthcare environment.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish with strong written and verbal communication skills in both languages preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience working with diverse populations, especially immigrant and low-income communities.
  • Proficiency in financial management software and tools (experience with Sage Intacct, or similar preferred).
  • Strong analytical skills,

Preferred Education and Experience :

  • Experience managing a healthcare organization with complex revenue streams, including insurance reimbursements, grants, and patient billing.
  • Familiarity with value-based care models and other emerging healthcare financial models.
  • Duties and Responsibilities :

  • Financial Management & Strategy
  • Lead the organization’s financial strategy, ensuring alignment with the mission and long-term sustainability of the FQHC.
  • Manage and oversee all accounting functions, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, budgeting, financial reporting, and audits.
  • Develop and implement financial policies, procedures, and internal controls to ensure compliance with GAAP and federal grant regulations (HRSA, Medicaid, Medicare).
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to develop and execute the organization's strategic plan, especially as it relates to financial goals and capital investments.
  • 2. Budgeting & Forecasting

  • Lead the annual budgeting process, including developing, managing, and reporting on organizational and departmental budgets.
  • Provide accurate financial forecasting and cash flow analysis to support organizational planning and decision-making.
  • Oversee grants management, including financial reporting and compliance with federal and state funding guidelines.
  • 3. Compliance & Reporting

  • Ensure compliance with all financial regulatory requirements, including Uniform Guidance, 340B, Medicaid / Medicare reimbursement, and other relevant healthcare regulations.
  • Coordinate and oversee annual financial audits and audits required for federal grants.
  • Prepare and present financial reports to the Board of Directors, CEO, and other stakeholders, providing clear analysis of financial trends, risks, and opportunities.
  • 4. Team Leadership & Development

  • Lead and mentor the finance team, fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, and accountability.
  • Collaborate with the executive team and other department heads to ensure the best financial practices are embedded across the organization.
  • 5. Risk Management & Operational Efficiency

  • Develop risk management strategies to ensure the long-term financial health of the organization, including maintaining proper insurance coverage and managing organizational liabilities.
  • Evaluate and implement financial systems and technology to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Physical Requirements :
