Position: Para-Educator –Afterschool Program Assistant
Employment Status: 4 hours per day
Shift starts between the hours of 2:00pm-6:30pm (times may vary on half days)
180 student days 11 holidays
Continuing Position
Salary: In accordance with the PSE salary schedule
Minimum Qualifications:
· High School Diploma or equivalent
· Every Student Succeeds Act requirements (official college transcript with evidence of 72.0 college-level quarter credit hours OR official college transcript with evidence of Associate’s degree or higher OR official 4-page Parapro score report with score of 455 or higher
· Completion of 28 hours of Fundamental Course of Study training during the 2024-2025 school year.
· Completion of an additional 70 hours of professional development, within three years, to obtain the General Paraeducator Certificate
· Must be able to work both independently and under supervision and be able to understand and follow oral and written instruction
· Willingness to receive further training in all aspects related to the position
· Must possess independent decision making skills
· Must be able to prioritize multiple tasks and organize time.
· Must have strong organizational, planning and time management skills
· Must possess good communication skills, both verbal and interpersonal
Must possess computer skills
· Must possess good judgment and critical thinking abilities
· Must be committed to serving a diverse clientele
· Must display initiative, ability to learn, flexibility, integrity, and self discipline
· The individual must be friendly, patient, personable and must effectively work with students
· Treat student information in a confidential manner
· Embraces the educational philosophy that all children can learn
Special Requirements:
· Fingerprints (successful WSP and FBI clearance)
· Proof of Immunization (if born 1/1/57 or later)
· I-9 Employment Eligibility (citizen or legal alien status)
· Current CPR/First Aid card or willingness to seek training
· HIV/HBV Training (district will provide but must be obtained within 60 days of employment)
· Harassment Prevention Training (district will provide but must be obtained within 60 days of employment
General Job Summary:
The program assistant will work directly under the supervision of the afterschool program director and is responsible to provide quality programming and maintain a positive place for kids. Program assistants will work independently as directed with students to support their academic, social and extra-curricular development. Program assistants will be responsible for direct supervision of and the development of positive relationships with each student.
Duties and Responsibilities:
This list of duties and responsibilities is not exhaustive and may be supplemented as necessary.· Provide supervision of students at all times.
· Provide a safe environment for all participants staff, partners and families.
· Assist in creating a learning environment celebrating discovery and achievement.
· Maintain a clean and well organized working environment
· Develop and maintain positive relationships with students.
· Provide academic support in the tutoring center as assigned.
· Provide and lead athletic, arts and crafts, extra-curricular, etc activities for students as assigned.
· Assist the director with recordkeeping and clerical duties as assigned.
· Operate support equipment such as copy machines, laminators, die-cut
· Perform clerical duties and record keeping
· Use technology (computers) for word processing, data management, spreadsheets
· Preparing instructional materials and displays
· Operate audio visual equipment
· Prepare healthy and nutritious snacks
· Assist in managing food inventory in a safe and healthy manner
· Will work directly with small groups of students under direct supervision
· Administer minor first-aid
· Communicate effectively with students, staff, and parents
· Other duties as may relate to specific area of assignment
Working Conditions:
Work is typically performed in and around a student learning environment; may be exposed to childhood diseases; may be required to sit for prolonged periods of time; may be required to lift; may experience a multitude of demands and changing priorities.
