This role supports the Title III Nutrition Program to provide meals and other supporting services to assist older people in maintaining independence, through providing services at the congregate meal site in Holmen, WI. This role involves recordkeeping, which requires some computer and math skills. The schedule is Monday-Friday from approximately 9:00am to 1:00pm.

Serves congregate meals and packages Home-Delivered meals.
Machine or hand washes dishes and maintains clean meal site.
Maintains meal portion standard and assures sanitation safety of food, as outlined by state and federal requirements for the program.
Checks site supplies and places order with ADRC office staff.
Records meal reservations and meals served; keeps all records needed for reporting statistics to the ADRC office staff.
Assists in organizing and making determinations for the delivery route.
Ensures that special dietary meals, such as for diabetics, have the proper name on them so they are delivered to the correct person.
Maintains a friendly and welcoming demeanor and encourages conversation with meal recipients.
Maintains strict confidentiality of work-related information.
Provides general information and referral regarding available programs and services.
Assists with training volunteers and reports volunteer hours to the ADRC. Provides general information and referral regarding available programs and services.
Physical demands: Uses hearing, near and far vision to handle and package meals, drive vehicle, walk from street or driveway into a person's home, climbing steps as necessary. Uses oral communication with meal participants, volunteers and other staff. Uses hands, fingers and arms to open storage cabinets, lift and move containers of meals and pack them into totes while standing. Lifts and carries totes weighing 20 pounds. Occasionally pushes individual in wheel chair and assists them in other ways; sits, stands, bends, reaches, and moves about the food site intermittently. Has exposure to sanitizers for dishes and oven cleaner for food totes. Some time is spent in office using phones; handling papers, manuals, and other office materials. Reads and writes. In unusual situations, there is the potential for exposure to blood/body fluids.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Ability to relate positively to and communicate effectively with individuals who are elderly and/or with a disability and their caregivers.
- Skills in observation and general assessment of well-being.
- Ability to recruit, organize and supervise volunteers.
- Ability to count and add numbers proficiently.
Training, Experience and Other Requirements
- If driving, requires access to personal vehicle, good driving record, valid driver's license and must carry insurance on vehicle to meet the County requirements.
- Availability to work mid-day hours with reliability.
- Good communication skills.
- Enjoy working with people over 60 years of age.
- Preference given to persons who are regular participants in the Elderly Nutrition Program and/or persons who have done volunteer work in the Elderly Nutrition Program.
- The following are helpful: Community volunteer experience; work experience and/or training in gerontology; training in the medical area such as CPR training or basic first aid, experience handling money, simple record keeping, food service, or volunteer coordinating.
- Must pass criminal record check as required by Wisconsin Caregiver Law.
Benefits for this position depend on the number of hours worked.
- If the position is full-time, then benefits would be available.
- If the position is part-time, then limited benefits would be available (this would not include insurances unless 30 hours per week or more).
- If the hours are less-than-half-time, then there are no benefits available.
