If you enjoy being outside and working with your hands, then La Crosse County has an opportunity for you! We are currently hiring seasonal grounds crew at Goose Island (near Stoddard) and Veteran's Memorial (near West Salem) and are seeking candidates with availability beginning in April and through mid-to-late October.
- Paid training, licensing, and certifications as needed for seasonal employees.

Regularly cleans, services and sanitizes restrooms, vault toilets, shower houses and shelter houses. Repairs and paints picnic tables, benches, shower houses, shelter houses, fences and signs. Removes litter. Lifts and empties trash barrels. Keeps park grounds and buildings clean.
Drives truck and utility vehicle (all terrain vehicle) to haul garbage and debris / honey wagon service.
Maintains valid drivers' license and good driving record and advises Parks / Office Supervisor of driving infractions.
Assists the public in its use of park facilities.
Mows and trims grass and hauls debris. Cuts weeds and brush using hand tools. Cleans ash from fire pits. Prunes shrubs and trees. Cuts and stores firewood.
Fills propane tanks.
Does minor repair work.
Operates a variety of machines, tools and equipment; performs simple maintenance work to said equipment, including refueling.
Protects park property from abuse, such as vandalism or violations of park rules and regulations.
Carries and operates a two-way radio for communication with co-workers and supervisor when in the field.
This is a public service position, and employee is required to be courteous, cooperative and respectful at all times, with the public and clients. Also establishes and maintains a courteous, cooperative and respectful working relationship with other employees, supervisors, and public officials. Works safely and follows safety practices and standards of the Facilities Department; responsible for reporting or correcting any existing or potential safety or accident hazard.
Physical demands : Lifts and dumps barrels of garbage weighing approx. 60 lbs. Occasionally lifts up to 100 lbs. with assistance. Rides and operates lawn mowers and other power equipment. Wears safety equipment, such as goggles, gloves, and ear protection. Carries and uses power trimmer weighing approx. 20 lbs. Bends, twists, crouches and kneels while scrubbing bathrooms. Sweeps, mops and carries buckets of water. Splits wood. Handles, carries and operates various equipment such as hand and power tools, chainsaws, shovels, pick, hammer and brooms. Reaches and uses arms and hands for carrying equipment, painting and other maintenance work. Occasionally climbs ladders and works at heights to paint, repair roofs, or other functions. Drives truck. Walks, pushes, pulls, bends, twists, reaches, crouches and kneels while performing duties. Occasionally climbs hills and walks uneven terrain. Uses near and far vision. Comprehends and carries out oral and written instructions. Uses some independent judgment. Works outdoors in all types of weather during months of April through October. Dramatic shifts in temperature, dust, noise, vibrations and mechanical hazards are factors. Hazards exist in operating mechanical equipment listed above and fire hazards when filling gas tanks on equipment. Reads and writes instructions and records. May stand for up to 8 hours per shift. Tasks may involve exposure to blood / body fluids.
