POSITION OVERVIEW:
We are seeking a Staff Therapist for the EPSDT department. This position is a clinical team member of the Early, Periodic, Screening, Diagnosis, and Treatment (EPSDT) child and family outpatient therapy program at La Familia Counseling Service and will report to the Program Director. This particular position provides services primarily to clients residing in Southern Alameda County, but may also serve Northern Alameda County as needed. Services are provided at agency offices, home settings, and/or other field locations.
The Staff Therapist will maintain an active caseload of EPSDT clients and meet monthly productivity goals; attend weekly group and individual clinical supervision; participate in weekly training as assigned by his/her clinical supervisor or agency administration; and attend weekly staff meetings. The Staff Therapist will work within all compliance standards; complete documentation in a timely manner per agency policy; and maintain strict confidentiality protocols. This role will uphold and champion the agency’s mission, vision, and values and contribute to a collaborative and inclusive work culture. The successful candidate will also:
- Provide meaningful therapy – Offer individual, family, and group therapy for clients fostering healing and resilience.
- Engage with the community – Lead psychoeducational workshops, participate in outreach events, and create safe spaces for those seeking support and connection.
- Deliver well-rounded mental health services, including:
- Crisis intervention and immediate support
- Screening, assessment, and diagnosis
- Person-centered and family-centered treatment planning
- Outpatient mental health and substance use counseling
- Psychiatric rehabilitation services
- Peer and caregiver support programs
- Services provided directly or through strategic partnerships
- Collaborate for client success – Work closely with La Familia teams, key stakeholders, community organizations, county social workers, parents, and caregivers to ensure coordinated, effective care.
- Support holistic wellness – Partner with primary care providers as needed to ensure a well-rounded approach to mental health and overall well-being.
- Champion cultural responsiveness – Deliver high-quality, inclusive services that reflect the agency’s mission, vision, and values, creating a collaborative and supportive work environment.
La Familia offers a recruitment bonus for any Behavioral Health or Substance Use Disorder programs and positions that require occupational licenses or certifications are eligible. This bonus is paid throughout your first year of continued employment.
Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:
- Makes psychological evaluations of assigned cases; determines appropriate diagnostic procedures and tests to be used; clinical interviews with clients and other interested persons to develop information pertinent to diagnosis and treatment.
- Provides individual and family psychotherapy; provides consultation to clinic staff members as necessary; interviews clients and families to gather social and psychiatric data; prepares mental health/environmental case histories for use in diagnosis; and participates in developing psychological treatment programs and case planning for clients.
- Meets with clients/families for regular therapeutic interviews; guides the client/family in understanding his/her illness and contributing personal, social, and economic factors; assists client/family in developing realistic plans; advises client/family on community resources; and makes referrals and other arrangements as necessary.
- Provides the majority of services in the field, client’s homes, and La Familia offices as needed. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, services can also be provided via telehealth.
- Works at least two evenings per week to meet the needs of families who have family members that work traditional hours.
- Complies with all agency’s policies and procedures.
- Maintains strict HIPPA guidelines, submits billings on a daily basis/submits client logs on a daily basis.
- Follow Short-Doyle Medi-Cal charting and documentation requirements and Agency regulations in a timely manner.
- Provides input and feedback on potential related projects/programs, as appropriate.
- Supports agency-wide Quality Improvement efforts

- Track and regularly report on key metrics for responsible function areas
- Leads and collaborate on special projects related to agency objectives as appropriate
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:
- Graduate degree in mental health (e.g. PhD, Psy.D., MSW and/or MA in Psychology or related field). Must be registered with the Board of Behavioral Sciences or Board of Psychology (or able to show proof of pending application); must be eligible for licensure via the BOP or BBS.
- Bilingual Spanish/English required.
- Knowledge of principles and practices of modern clinical psychology, including family systems, abnormal psychology, personality theory, diagnostic interviewing. Psychotherapy including brief therapy and behavior change, casework, systems theory, family therapy, community psychology and community mental health.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients and staff of all levels.
- Ability to determine the needs of individual situations regarding diagnostic and therapeutic techniques, taking an effective course of action, and follow through with effective treatment plans.
- Excellent speaking and writing abilities.
- Non-Profit and Community Based Organization experience highly desirable.
- Demonstrates and models excellent “customer service” orientation, especially in the ability to interact with people at all levels within and outside the agency.
- Thinks independently and can make informed decisions when needed.
- Exercises extreme discretion with the ability to hold, balance and transmit public and confidential information needed by various parties.
- Proficient using MS Office products, particularly Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
- Acquires or maintains proficiency in using Google Drive products, including Docs, Sheets, and Forms.
- Valid CA Driver’s license

Salary : $74,547 - $92,348
