PRESCHOOL DIRECTOR, PART TIME
Position Summary:
This is a 12 month position, requiring 25 hours per week from August through mid-June. Late June and July hours are significantly fewer, as needed for late registration and tours for prospective students.
The Director oversees all aspects of La Habra Hills Presbyterian Preschool, including administrative duties, management and finance, personnel, advertising and marketing, and childcare opportunities before and after school. Ensuring LHHPP’s compliance with state and federal rules and regulations is essential, as is the monitoring of children’s safety. The Director is a member of the La Habra Hills Presbyterian Church staff, reports to the lead pastor, and partners with the LHHPP Board of Directors.
This position is salaried at $40,000 per year.

Duties:
- Administrative
- Responsible for the daily oversight of preschool program and childcare offerings, with an eye on expanding services to serve the community and ensure fiscal viability.
- Implements a curriculum that supports the academic and spiritual growth of LHHPP students.
- Responsible for meeting budgeted enrollment goals; interviews and admits prospective students and parents – including summer months.
- Oversees and is comfortable working with financial and record-keeping computer programs of the preschool (currently Quicken and Procare).
- Develops an annual calendar based on academic school year, consistent with local public school district calendars.
Plans and oversees special events for children and families (examples: Grandparent’s Day, Trunk or Treat participation, Thanksgiving celebration, Christmas program, etc.).
- Works with pastor and/or staff to provide monthly chapels for children.
- Compliance and Safety
- Understands and follows state and local regulations and rules to ensure the school’s ongoing licensure and support student safety.
- Plans and implements school safety and disaster plans.
- Hosts announced inspections and ensures daily compliance in anticipation of unannounced inspections.
- Understands the standards and practices needed to ensure student safety.
- Keeps accurate records of policies, procedures, enrollment and daily activities.
- Conducts classroom visits daily.
- Ensures that playgrounds are well-kept and safe, and that equipment is in good working order.
- Management and finance
- Establishes, implements and monitors a balanced annual budget.
- Works with Board chair and pastor and/or staff on financial, classroom and grounds issues that are better handled through the sponsoring church.
- Ensures that classrooms are appropriately furnished and well-equipped.
- Orders class and office supplies.
- Personnel
- Hires and trains staff.
- Ensures that staffing levels, including substituting, meet legal ratios.
- Encourages the ongoing professional and spiritual growth of the teaching staff.
- Conducts annual evaluations of all staff, initiating performance plans, corrective action and termination if necessary.
- Maintains records of all staff – time off, attendance, etc.
- Holds regular staff meetings.
- Organizational
- Reports to the lead pastor of La Habra Hills Presbyterian Church.
- Participates in monthly LHHPC staff meetings as requested.
- Partners with and serves as a non-voting member of the LHHPP Board of Directors.
- Meets with the Board chair at least quarterly.
- Communication and Marketing
- Establishes strong relationships with parents; is available for conferences related to child behavior, concerns, and development.
- Understands and effectively utilizes social media (website, Instagram, etc.) to communicate about LHHPP.
- Advertises and represents LHHPP at community fairs and other events to support the recruiting of students.
Qualifications:
- Education: One of the following is required:
- An associate of arts degree from an accredited or approved college or university with a major or emphasis in early childhood education or child development, and at least two years of teaching experience in a licensed childcare center or comparable group childcare program.
- A bachelor’s degree from an accredited or approved college or university with a major or emphasis in early childhood education or child development, and at least two years of teaching experience in a licensed childcare center or comparable group childcare program.
- A Child Development Site Supervisor Permit or a Child Development Program Director Permit issued by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing.
- Experience: LHHPP is seeking a director with two or more years of administrative experience at a church-sponsored or private preschool.
- Professional Standards
- Public contact position requiring professional apparel, personal hygiene, and grooming.
- The Director’s preschool and church representation requires professional written communication, oral presentations and general interaction with the public.
Physical Demands:
- This position typically functions indoors in an office environment with light to moderate noise associated with business office equipment.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to move about inside the office and school grounds and operate a computer and keyboard. The employee is occasionally required to position self to reach items on the floor and in high cabinetry. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.
- Employee must be able to communicate with others to exchange information including both over the telephone and in-person communication with callers and community members and be able to read a computer screen and paper documents.
