WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

We are seeking a dedicated and dynamic Public Relations Specialist to support the ongoing communications efforts of the Office of Public Relations & Communications under the direct supervision of the Director, with an emphasis on strategic communication, writing, editing, digital media, marketing, graphic design, and social media management.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, journalism, or related field; 

Three years of proven experience in a communications-related field required, school district experience preferred. 

 

SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:

  • Excellent skills in writing and editing?? 
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills? 
  • Knowledge of media relations and public relations functions? 
  • Demonstrated skills in photography, videography, and design 
  • Experience in television and media production, related to digital video, audio, cameras, switchers, video servers, video streaming, live events, and post-production
  • Ability to work as a member of a team and maintain a positive office environment?? 
  • Ability to identify, analyze, and solve problems? 
  • Detail-oriented, self-starter with the ability to multitask, able to change assignments on short notice with little or no direction? 
  • Proficient in social media management
  • Familiar with data tracking tools to evaluate the reach of content and work produced.
  • Ability to record news packages, video segments, promos, and assist in all television media productions
  • Ability to produce and edit news packages, programs, and segments
  • Extensive video editing skills (Premiere, After Effects, Photoshop)
  • Ability to collect, analyze, and interpret data from a wide variety of sources. Understanding digital workflows and transcoding systems
  • Knowledge of the broadcast environment and master control systems

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  1. Fulfill post-production video editing projects (offline, online, audio, color, output).
  2. Assist in coming up with story ideas, gathering data, and information.
  3. Prepare promotional information materials as requested.
  4. Develop graphic design and daily visual communication needs.? 
  5. Manage department editorial calendar and maintain a schedule of key dates and deadlines for publications and special events.?? 
  6. Assist in the production of news packages, instructional productions, and district announcements.
  7. Responsible for updating all social media channels.
  8. Write and copyedit news releases, feature stories, website posts, and social media posts to announce programs or promote events and achievements for the district’s digital and print publications. 
  9. Support organizational communications and announcements.  
  10. Monitor wires, social media, and other broadcast networks for news developments.
  11. Fulfill master control and programming assignments as required.
  12. Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  13. Fulfill the production setup for live events and video streaming.
  14. Together with members of the Office of Public Relations & Communications, develop content to promote district programs, products, services, events, and awareness campaigns. 
  15. Assist in coverage of events, including but not limited to banquets, celebrations, special meetings, and recognitions. This includes after-hours meetings or activities as assigned.? 
  16. Collaborate with district staff across departments to reach department goals. 
  17. Meet the physical demands of the job, such as loading and unloading of audio and video equipment.
  18. Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Public Relations & Communications.

MENTAL DEMANDS:
Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written); maintain emotional control under stress; interpret policy, procedures, and data; coordinate varied projects/programs; meet deadlines; ability to use and learn from technical self-paced pre-certification courses.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS:

Occasional irregular hours; frequent and repetitive hand motions; prolonged use of computer workstations; some district-wide travel; frequent standing, bending, kneeling and lifting.

 

POSITION WORKING DAYS: 226 Days
