ESS Program Aides work August through June months only.
Under the direction of the Extended School Services (ESS) Site Lead, the ESS Program Aide participates in a variety of duties in the operation of the Extended School Services Program at an assigned school site; observes and modifies behavior of students enrolled in the before and after school program during educational and recreational activities; coordinates and implements academic activities aligned with District curricula and educational standards; assists in maintaining a clean and safe learning environment for students.

An examination will be given to establish an eligibility list for the position of Extended School Services Program Aide in order to fill vacancies for the current school year These positions are part-time and vary between 16.25 - 26.25 hours per week.

Valid First Aid and CPR Certificate issued by an authorized agency.
ESSA COMPLIANCE- The Extended School Services Program Aide classification requires that all incumbents meet the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) requirements. This can be accomplished by one of the following : a) 2 years of completed study at an institution of higher learning (48 units or more with transcripts submitted with application), b) an Associate's Degree or higher (copy of degree submitted with application), OR c) by passing the District ESSA exam.
It is recommended that you apply for the position even without the ESSA. You will receive an email with instructions on how to take the ESSA once you application has been screened.
The written exam is for those who have submitted a classified application, meet minimum qualifications, and have satisfied the ESSA requirements above. Qualified candidates will be invited, via email, to the exam.
All testing will take place at La Mesa - Spring Valley School District's Education Service Center, 4750 Date Avenue, La Mesa, CA 91942 (Phone : 619-668-5700) unless notified otherwise. Test starts promptly at the scheduled time. Latecomers will not be admitted. Candidates will be required to present valid photo identification prior to sign-in.

Equivalency : Any combination equivalent to graduation from high school and fifty (50) hours of experience working with children in an organized setting. Completion of two years of higher education study OR possession of an Associate's or higher level degree, OR pass assessment that demonstrates knowledge of and the ability to assist in teaching reading, writing, and mathematics OR reading, writing, and mathematics readiness.
