Description
POSITION SUMMARY
The Materials Management Director is responsible for overseeing all aspects of materials management within the hospital, including procurement, inventory control, and distribution of medical supplies, equipment, and other materials. This role is crucial in ensuring the efficient and cost-effective operation of the hospital's supply chain, which directly impacts patient care and operational efficiency.
CORE FUNCTIONS
Develop and execute strategic plans for the procurement, storage, and distribution of medical supplies, and other hospital materials.
Reviews and coordinates with all departments on origination and again on renewal of service contracts to ensure they remain relevant and are renewed at the best rates possible.
Provides administrative support to the Chief Financial Officer in the form of reports, budgets, supply utilization analysis and capital expenditure management.
Reviews, evaluates and approves all requests for non-stock purchases prior to procurement.
Maintains good interdepartmental and intradepartmental relationships by providing the highest level of services, management assistance and open communication.
Interfaces directly with all departments in the hospital with regards to materials that have been requested to ascertain specifications and need.
Reviews for approval all duplicating requirements of the various departments of the hospital with the highest level of service, management assistance and open communication.
Monitor and analyze inventory data to ensure accurate tracking and efficient use of resources.
Negotiates and acts as the contact person for all purchase agreements with the various vendors for materials that may or may not be addressed by a group purchasing organization.
Develops department staff via ongoing in-service education, on-the-job training, evaluations and open departmental meetings.
Interviews sales representatives and reviews vendor performance data in relation to overall service rendered.
Develop and manage the materials management budget, ensuring cost-effective procurement and efficient use of resources.

Able to stand, walk, bend, squat, reach, and stretch frequently.
Possess physical agility and adequate reaction time to respond quickly and appropriately to unexpected patient care needs.
Needs adequate hearing and visual acuity, including adequate color vision.
Requires fine motor skills, adequate eye-hand coordination, and ability to grasp and handle objects.
May be required to lift up to 50 pounds.
Must use standard precautions due to threat of exposure to blood and bodily fluids.
Needs ability to communicate effectively through reading, writing, and speaking in person or on telephone.
May require periodic use of personal computer.
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, or a related field. Specialized Certifications may be considered. Minimum of 5 years of experience in materials management or supply chain management within a healthcare or hospital setting is preferred , with at least 2 years in a leadership or managerial role.Strong leadership and team management abilities. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.Strong negotiation, vendor management, and contract management skills. In-depth knowledge of inventory control, procurement processes, and healthcare logistics.Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage multiple priorities.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Master’s degree preferred
Additional related education and/or experience preferred.
