What are the responsibilities and job description for the B&G Maintenance Worker position at La Plata County?
Performs a variety of skilled work in repair & maintenance of plumbing, roofing, HVAC, doors & hardware, electrical, landscaping for all county buildings, inspects facilities, machinery & equipment to determine maintenance needs; operates equipment & machines related to the work, snow removal. This position may perform work at the La Plata County Jail & may be on-call.

Responsible for maintaining and repairing County buildings, facilities and structures.
Performs preventive maintenance on air conditioning and heating units; checks and tests heating and air conditioning equipment.
Performs preventive maintenance on stand-by generator, main electric gate, boiler, air compressor, water heater, freezer, refrigerator and icemaker.
Performs plumbing work; repairs leaking faucets and pipes; unstops and repairs toilets; unstops drains; installs plumbing ducts, pipes, and fixtures; inspects grounds and fields, repairs plumbing and irrigation problems as needed; inspects all pumps, valves and lights.
Performs maintenance of sprinkler systems; replaces and repairs defective sprinkler heads, gaskets, valves, pumps, etc.
Troubleshoots and repairs electrical problems in fans, motors, compressors, pumps, air handling units, appliances, etc.; installs special power sources, lighting systems, and multi-voltage switches; replaces electrical motors, elements, fuses, bulbs, and thermostats.
Replaces light bulbs and tubes; installs ballasts in lights; repairs fixtures.
Moves office equipment including desks, files, books, etc. for County offices.
Performs carpentry work in repairing County buildings and furniture; interprets user requirements; uses provided plans or designs and draws plans; determines materials list; measures, cuts, and assembles materials; finishes project with appropriate paint, stain, varnish, or wood sealer.
Delivers equipment to offices; loads and unloads tools, equipment and materials.
Removes, replaces and repairs pneumatic, electronic, and mechanical locks; disassembles, installs, and repairs locks.
Paints rooms, hallways, and ceilings; patches holes; primes area for painting.
Welds and performs metal fabrication.
Repairs washers and dryers.
Drives trucks and operates equipment in the loading of trucks.
Operates and maintains a variety of heavy equipment.
Assists in the selection of materials and equipment utilized in the performance of duties.
Orders supplies and maintains inventory.
Patches leaks in roof.
Cleans and dust offices, vacuums floors, and washes windows.
Maintains grounds; mows grass, rakes, applies insecticides and herbicides, trims weeds and hedges, and performs general landscaping maintenance.
Interacts with the public to exchange and/or provide information.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Regular and predictable attendance is required.
MATERIAL AND EQUIPMENT USED:
Welders, power tools, cutting torches, blowers, two-way radio, snow plow, power saws, vehicle(s), mowers, jack hammer, floor buffers, motor grader, power nailers, hand tools, light/heavy construction equipment, vacuum truck, farm tractor/implements
Education and Experience:
High School diploma or GED; and,
Two to three years of progressively responsible related experience; or,
Any combination of education, training and experience, which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.
Licenses and Certifications:
Valid State Driver's License.
Knowledge of:
Practices, methods, tools, materials, and equipment of the building trades.
Use of methods, equipment and procedures of cleaning materials.
Occupational hazards of building trades and of necessary safety precautions.
Basic plumbing and electricity.
Basic landscaping principles and practices.
Procedures, policies, and operations within area of assignment.
Skill in:
Locating and correcting defects in facilities and equipment.
Operating and maintaining all assigned equipment.
Effective oral communications.
Ability to:
Ability to develop skill in locating and correcting defects in building installations, fixtures, and equipment.
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operation and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, and so forth.
Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
