What are the responsibilities and job description for the Technical Support Specialist position at La Plata County?
Undertakes diverse technical responsibilities for the daily administration of the County’s desktop systems & associated peripherals, encompassing hardware & software installation, configuration, upgrades, troubleshooting, testing, & maintenance. Utilizes the County’s desktop mgmt system, incorporating tasks such as remote access, inventory upkeep, & remote upgrades. Assumes the role of helpdesk technician for LPC Human Services. Must have exper w/ Windows-based computer systems, LAN telecommunications, CAT5 cabling. AA degree in related field, A cert desirable.

Reasonable accommodations, as defined under the American with Disabilities Act, will be made when possible.Engages in various troubleshooting and resolution activities for software and hardware issues; oversees the maintenance, repair, and installation of computer hardware, software, and peripherals.
Monitors, analyzes, and rectifies issues with computers and peripherals, including PCs, scanners, printers, and related equipment.
Collaborates with users to address desktop system and printing requirements; assesses and tests software and hardware compatibility.
Coordinates, facilitates, and sets up mobile laptops, digital projectors, video-conferencing, and other electronic equipment for presentations, conferencing, and training.
Conducts training sessions for users and onboarding new employees in operating systems, file maintenance, desktop system utilities, and office automation applications, as needed.
Administers and evaluates the operations and activities of assigned systems; collaborates with Information Services staff, vendors, and suppliers; researches and proposes improvements and modifications.
Familiarity with VoIP phone systems.
IMPORTANT JOB FUNCTIONS:
Creates documentation for new desktop systems and peripherals, as well as updates for existing systems, including system programs, knowledge base articles, and user guides; ensures adherence to established standards and procedures.
Participates in professional group meetings; stays updated on emerging trends and innovations in personal computer, peripheral, and general information systems technology.
Undertakes other related duties as assigned.
Regular and predictable attendance is required.

Associates degree from an accredited vocational school, college or university with course work in electronics, telecommunications, management information systems, computer science, or a related field; and,
Previous related experience; or,
Any combination of education, training, and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.
Licenses and Certifications:
A Certification (desirable).
Knowledge of:Operational characteristics and limitations of PC desktop systems, computer systems, and peripherals.
Principles and operating procedures of Windows-based computer systems.
Operational characteristics of LAN telecommunications, including CAT5 cabling, Ethernet switches, and other telecommunications equipment.
Principles and practices of technical analysis and documentation.
Skill in:
Using tact, discretion, initiative, and independent judgment within established guidelines.
Communicating clearly and effectively, orally and in writing, with technical and non-technical staff groups.
Organizing work, setting priorities, meeting critical deadlines, and following up on assignments with minimal direction.
Installing, configuring, analyzing, and maintaining computer systems and peripherals, including printers and hubs.
Applying logical thinking to solve problems or accomplish tasks
Making recommendations to maintain effective desktop systems, peripherals, and software applications.
