Certified Special Education Homebound Teacher
This posting is for the 2025-2026 school year.
PRIMARY PURPOSE:
Provide homebound students with appropriate learning activities and experiences designed to fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical and social growth. Develop or modify curricula and prepare lessons and other instructional materials according to ability levels. Work closely with homebound students’ regular teachers and other campus staff.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:
· Bachelor’s Degree from accredited university
· Valid Texas teaching certificate or permit, with required special education endorsement
Special Knowledge/Skills:
· Knowledge of special needs of students in homebound instruction
· Knowledge of Admission, Review and Dismissal Committee process and requirements for homebound placement
· General knowledge of curriculum and instruction
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
Instructional Strategies
1. Collaborate with students, parents and other members of the staff to develop a schedule through the Admission, Review and Dismissal (ARD) Committee process for each student referred for homebound instruction.
2. Implement and instructional or skill development program for assigned students and show written evidence of preparation as required.
3. Plan and use appropriate instructional/learning strategies, activities, materials and equipment that reflect accommodation for individual needs of students assigned.
4. Work cooperatively with classroom teachers to modify regular curricula as needed and assist students in keeping pace with regular class assignment.
5. Participate in ARD Committee meetings of students referred for homebound instruction.
6. Conduct assessment of student learning styles and uses results for instructional activities.
7. Present the subject matter assigned to District curricula and essential elements.
8. Employ a variety of instructional techniques consistent with the needs and capabilities of each student assigned and the home environment.
Student Growth and Development
9. Consistently assess student achievement through formal and informal testing.
10. Assist students in analyzing and improving methods and habits of study.
11. Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned and may sponsor outside activities approved by the school.
12. Present a positive role model for students that support the mission of the school district.
Classroom Management and Organization
13. Create an environment in the home conducive to learning and appropriate to the physical, social and emotional development of the student.
14. Manage student behavior in the home and administer discipline as appropriate in cooperation with the adult who is present.
15. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students.
16. Assist in the selection of books, equipment and other instructional materials.
Communication
17. Establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents on a consistent basis.
18. Maintain a professional relationship with all colleagues, students, parents and community members.
19. Use acceptable communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
Professional Growth and Development
20. Participate in the district staff development program.
21. Demonstrate interest and initiative in professional improvement.
22. Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical and responsible.
Policy Implementation
23. Keep information of and comply with state, district and school regulations and policies for special education teachers.
24. Compile, maintain and file all reports, records and other documents required.
25. Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required on the campus of primary assignment.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supervise assigned teacher aide(s).
Salary:
- $61,000 for Beginning teacher with "0" years experience (based on the 2024-2025 compensation plan)
- $1,000 Master's Degree addenda
- Additional $1,000 Doctorate Degree addenda
Pay Grade: Certified Instructional, 10 Duty Months

The District contributes $400/month to the cost of employee only health insurance, which is $175/month greater than the state required amount of $225/month.
