Retail Associate – Rainbow’s End Thrift Store

Position Summary

Retail Associates at Rainbow’s End play a vital role in providing excellent customer service, supporting store operations, and promoting the mission of La Puente through community-facing retail work. Associates work as part of a team to process donations, maintain a welcoming store environment, and ensure smooth day-to-day operations.

This role is a great opportunity for someone looking to gain retail and customer service experience in a supportive and mission-driven environment. On-the-job training is provided.

Key ResponsibilitiesCustomer Service & Store Operations

• Greet customers and donors warmly; assist with purchases and questions
• Operate the Square Point of Sale (POS) system with accuracy
• Follow opening and closing procedures, including register counts and daily checklists
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe store environment (including restrooms, floors, and displays)
• Handle challenging customer interactions professionally or refer to a manager

Donations & Inventory

• Accept and sort incoming donations with gratitude and professionalism
• Provide tax receipts to donors
• Tag, organize, and restock items on the sales floor
• Follow quality standards and make efforts to minimize waste

Volunteer Support

• Assist with training and supervising volunteers and workgroups as assigned
• Sign off on volunteer hours as appropriate

Community Engagement

• Inform customers about La Puente programs and community events
• Accept and process vouchers and donation jar contributions
• Represent the values of La Puente and promote its mission through everyday interactions

Minimum Qualifications

• Basic math and money-handling skills
• Comfort interacting with the public and working as part of a team
• Ability to take direction, ask questions, and learn on the job
• Reliable and professional in attendance and attitude
• Willingness to maintain confidentiality and respect for all customers and staff
• Ability to stand for extended periods and perform light lifting (up to 30 lbs)
• Valid driver’s license and clean driving record (if assigned to donation pickups)

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience in customer service or retail
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Experience working with diverse communities
• Basic computer or POS system experience

Day shift; flexible availability preferred
