La Rabida is currently hiring a Full-Time, RN Administrative Nurse Coordinator for both day and night shifts! This position will cover the day shift during the weekends, and the night shift during the week.


Job Summary:

The Administrative Nurse Coordinator assumes responsibility for patient care and hospital administrative functions on the evening, night, holiday, and weekend shifts. The coordinator collaborates with ACMs, other department managers and/or Executive Leaders to ensure safe, quality care for all patients. The coordinator is a resource person for patient care issues.


Administrative Nurse Coordinator Essential Functions:

Patient Care Coordination – 35%

  • Provides clinical leadership serving as a consultant to charge nurses and staff nurses on patient care-related issues.
  • Acts proactively to address patient and parent concerns utilizing family-centered care principles, promptly investigates, provides feedback to staff, and completes documentation of all complaints on the appropriate form.
  • Coordinates admissions with the hospital's Admissions Coordinator and Attending Physicians for placement of new patients.
  • Works with ACM and Charge Nurse to coordinate daily patient assignments matching the patient needs and acuity to the skill of the nurse.
  • Functions in the role of the Emergency Treatment Room staff member after hours maintaining complete and accurate documentation and ensuring compliance with EMTALA regulations.
  • Functions as Admitting Officer after regular hours.
  • Maintains an ongoing assessment of overall patient status throughout the shift and documents on the “Handoff” form.
  • Maintains knowledge of clinical and administrative policies.
  • Maintains required job skills and professional competencies.
  • Attends required educational sessions.
  • Actively monitor appropriate infection control policies and practices.


Leadership – 35%

  • Maintains constant visibility to staff, patients, and families to create a work environment and climate of enthusiasm, motivation, and accountability of staff.
  • Assumes administrative responsibility and authority for all hospital departments during the evening, night, holiday, and weekend shifts.
  1. Uses conflict resolution process to work through opposing views and maintain collaboration.
  2. Identifies and resolves critical administrative issues.
  3. Provides a complete handoff to the oncoming administrative nurse coordinator (ANC) on both administrative and clinical actual/potential concerns and documentation of same on the ANC Handoff Form.
  4. Consults with Administrator-on-Call when necessary.
  • Promote efficient resource utilization.
  • Role model’s excellent communication skills that promote teamwork and collaboration.
  • Role model’s Family Centered Care philosophy.
  • Serves in Team Leader role when necessary.
  • Understands, articulates, and ensures compliance with the State Nurse Practice Act, State Board of Nursing regulations, regulatory agency standards, and policies of the organization. (Examples: Joint Commission, IDPH, EMTALA, HIPPA)
  • Reports practice and/or behavioral concerns to the appropriate Manager, Director, and/or Vice President of Patient Care Services i.e., (time, attendance, sleeping, clinical practice, and documentation).
  • Assist with arranging coverage for sick calls (staff, ANC, ACM).
  • Carry ANC phone after 3 pm Monday-Friday and all day on the weekend and holidays to receive incoming calls for admissions and provide overall availability of the ANC.
  • Communicating appropriately and effectively with the public such as the press and police department when such needs arise; only communicating with the press when authorized by the AOC.
  • Maintains a prominent level of communication skills; reads all staff meeting minutes, minutes from relevant committees, and the communication log.
  • Maintains appropriate resource utilization.
  • Maintains current knowledge of Disaster Plan and all emergency codes and the appropriate actions required.

Development/Education – 30%

  • Role models and demonstrate responsibility for problem-solving/critical thinking to build skills in staff.
  • Assist with orientation of nursing and hospital personnel as needed.
  • Gives input on staff evaluations from evening and night shifts.
  • Participates in planning, implementing, and evaluating education programs with the education department.
  • Writes and investigates occurrence reports to identify actual/potential unsafe working environments and/or practices and ensures implementation of solutions.
  • Completes quality audits as assigned.
  • Attend code reviews and one mock code drill annually.
  • Role models a calm, efficient environment during emergency situations.
  • Performs regular and ongoing chart and documentation reviews; provides staff with real-time constructive feedback and provides Manager and/or Director with data and actions taken.
  • Plans and manages assigned staff toward accomplishment of La Rabida’s mission including recruitment; scheduling; training and development; counseling/coaching; appraisal and recognition, disciplinary, and other personnel actions in accordance with existing policies and procedures.
  • Understands that he/she, and the staff that he/she supervises, generates, updates, transmits, or otherwise work with Protected Health Information (PHI), and ensures that he/she, as well as the staff he/she supervises, treats PHI according to the hospital's policies and procedures.


What We Need From You:

Education: Graduate of an approved school of professional nursing. BSN preferred.

Related work experience: Minimum of three (3) years of nursing experience, two (2) in pediatrics. One (1) year minimum management experience required.

Licensure/Certification: Current Illinois Professional Nursing Licensure

Specialized Knowledge & Skills: Able to identify problems and deficiencies in a hospital system and work to achieve change. Demonstrates sound judgment and independent decision-making capabilities.

CPR Required: Only certifications issued by The American Heart Association or The American Red Cross will be accepted.
